Identify the component
I found it under my car this morning, but not sure it's off the car because it's absolutely pristine.

Re: Identify the component
I think it's a piece of trim off a jubilee clamp.

Re: Identify the component
They grip really well cylindrically over their limited size range. You have to suit the clamp to the hose. I used them on my biodiesel plant, much better then the usual Jubilee clip, but more expensive.

KFB is righter than me.
My van's intercooler hoses use the type KFB has shown.

Re: Identify the component
I'm now wondering where it might have come from.
As said, it's absolutely pristine, which makes me think it's NOT come from something under the bonnet.
If it's a tension spring from a jubilee clip, that would indicate that (if it came from the car), there's now a loose bit of pipe somewhere....

Re: Identify the component
Is does your car have an intercooled turbo engine?
If so it could be from an intercooler hose clip.

I'd give it a really good boot on a quiet stretch of road, see if it's lacking any performance (an getting terrible MPG).

Re: Identify the component
If an intercooler pipe pipe has come loose you'll know about it without giving it a boot because it'll whistle or chuff like a good 'un and it will probably make the EGM light come on.

But the pipe might not have come off yet.
Without the clip, if he gives it a good boot it will

The air-valve that controls intake from either the super- or turbo-charger is already behaving like a teenager, so maybe it's time to get the thing properly looked at
