Why on earth would I be buying a bike based upon its potential resale value? That's not what bikes are for, they're for smiles, pleasure and enjoyment. The fact they have any resale value at all is a bonus.

Of course, when you collect it and try to ride away, some spotty yoof on a bike that looks like it's made of Lego will point and laugh and say 'Haha old timer, you're not still riding that old, slow, smelly thing are you?' Then do a vertical take off* and disappear silently** at Warp 3 powered only by a Duracell battery the size of a Parma Violet.

* at the current rate of decay the roads won't be useable anyway.
** track days and racing will only allow bikes that absorb sound.

I think you misunderstood.

I meant that it's not worth Yamaha's time and money developing a new model when there's a very definite end in sight for the ICE.

It makes far more sense to take what they've already developed and squeeze the last drop of potential out of it. They've invested a fair amount of money in developing the twin and the triple - I'm not in the least surprised to see them be used as a basis for some very different bikes, and even those the race rep sales have dropped almost out of sight, a set of new clothes costs to clad the existing bikes costs relatively little.

Just checked. The seat is 30mm higher on the R7 (over the MT-07).
