Re: New bike time
Nice bike. Test rode a Mt07 and was impressed with the engine - super torquey as you say. Very light feeling too, tho I guess was less to it than the Tracer.

Re: Project bike
Looks fantastic - there's a certain look to the Gen1, the square headlight Ducati SS models have it too.
What is the 'project' aspect? Looks pretty well looked after...

Re: Brake failure... could you jump off?
One of the great biking myths used to be "I laid the bike down to avoid a crash" aka "I panic braked, locked up, fell off". Yeah you don't hear that half as much now that ABS is widespread. I think I'd get as far as thinking 'hey this is like that time in the Styrian GP when Mav...

Re: The Loud Pipe Poll 2020
Got the 'official' noisy but road legal Lafranconis on my Guzzi Cali. The OE ones were whisper quiet which seemed sad. These are loud but not offensively so. All about the Bass! Not much chance of flying under the radar on something that looks like it fell off a Christmas tree anyway.

Re: Be careful .... they're letting me near knives and sharp objects.
First job when i left school was a Butcher. Littlewoods as they had a food hall back in 79 then a shop called Midlothian Meat centre on leith walk. Unfortunately it was through the YOPS scheme and they never keep you on after the six month of free labour. 2nd one shut down anyway as he got held up ...

Re: premium bonds.
Great for stashing cash temproarily e.g. we've got cash put aside for a bathroom, popped it in bonds in June, won £75 so far and no wait to access the cash once the work is done. To be honest I mostly like the possibility of the prize, checking it at the start of the month etc. But I'm a sucker for ...

Are you certain you're dealing with this main dealer and not someone posing as them?

Re: Bike ramp into cellar (planning...)
You'll need a door casing with two fire seals in it and a solid core door, also a door closer but not a bloody awful Perco finger nipper. Perco does make some OK closers, just not the ones I've had to fit. Usually a closer with an oil filled damper to slow the door closing down. I usually set the s...

Re: Bike ramp into cellar (planning...)
It begins. The laminate floor is gone... There was a layer of foam underneath, as I believe is standard, and under that a layer of blue polythene which I assume was intended as a damp proof membrane. Whoever put it in just put it in flat though rather than extending up the walls, so not the most eff...

My own anecdotal evidence is that people appear to be driving more carefully than usual as no one wants to get in an accident go to hospital etc

Re: Bike ramp into cellar (planning...)
So did some measuring today, and looks like (as various of you have said!) the lift idea will be the best one. A ramp, at my max preferred slope of about 16 degrees would extend 4.5m from the house. The lift option OTOH should only extend approx 2.5m out and together with a nice lid/hatch will make ...

We're enjoying Dark - German series, sort of weird like stranger things but about time travel in a small town dominated by its nuclear power plant. Clever stuff and entertaining.

Re: Bike ramp into cellar (planning...)
I like the hatch. Adds a touch of Wallace & Gromit to proceedings. Been looking at scissor platform lifts on this site: https://edmolift.co.uk/custom-scissor-lift/ Probably a bit spendy but I might get in touch with them to get an idea - you never know. One thing I was pondering was the length o...

Re: Bike ramp into cellar (planning...)
Thanks I'll do the triangle thing. The driveway slopes downwards though so hopefully helps matters. I do really like the lift idea though, could get very Thunderbirds. Fortunately I have a lot of time to think all these things through before I can get anyone in to start digging/building. I think I'l...

Re: Bike ramp into cellar (planning...)
Thanks both. Should be OK on the council front as on very good terms with all neighbours, plus plan to be here for the next decade or two so not overly worried from a selling the house on POV. Drainage - there's a drain pipe somewhere underneath it all that I'm hoping will be usable to drain water r...
