Re: The Portimao express/weapon. Gsxr 750 L3 for Welsh Muffin

I always understood that the crossplane R1 wasn't a true "Big Bang" motor, more an "Uneven Bang". As Mr Dazzle said, the power delivery is the same as a 90° V4 with a 180° crank, (i.e. the Honda VFR800), which isn't considered to be "Big Bang". https://i.postimg.cc/QxQL...

Re: Prettiest Bike and Car Ever Made

I have no dog in the car fight, may as well ask me what the prettiest fridge is. If we're talking about bikes we've seen in the flesh, (and in this case only once), for me it has to be this: https://i.postimg.cc/8Cm5WgMg/Honda-NR750-3.jpg I saw one at an independent Honda specialist about 25 years a...

Re: Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS spotted testing in the UK

I’m assuming those reflectors on the forks are some strange American requirement. Side reflectors came in with Euro4. But they're not a legal requirement in the UK so a bit of dental floss or fishing line and some WD40 will fetch those off in no time. The only reflector legally required in the UK i...

The Portimao express/weapon. Gsxr 750 L3 for Welsh Muffin

It's difficult to see from your photos but it looks like those crankcase plugs could be from Yoshimura. https://i.postimg.cc/7ZYhnFhg/gixxer-3.jpg If that's the case, then you should be able to sell them on to someone else, (with less taste than you!), for more than the OE replacements will cost. The Portimao express/weapon. Gsxr 750 L3 for Welsh Muffin

Nice, I like  Apart from the anodised tat that is , but of course it is a Gixxer and they do seem to attract a certain type of person :D I'm not actually sure if that's standard or aftermarket, i couldn't find any to buy to change back to black. That looks like a really good find - relativ...

Re: The iconic superbike : Yamaha YZF-R1

Numpty question, why does the number of valves affect the top end/bottom end? As an owner of a less than cutting edge  2V Ducati motor, which I much prefer to the more powerful 4V water-cooled versions, this is a question I've pondered before. As Mr Dazzle said, having smaller, lighter valves...

That's a real tragedy. One of biking's best kept secrets - I'd never heard of it either until there was a Bike Show article about it last year.

Re: The 10+ year KX500 rebuild thread

Good spot! You seem to be good (or lucky!) finding these online bargains. I see that rear sprocket appears to be held on with three bolts. Just be aware that I think the standard mounting method on the XT is with six threaded studs and nuts with three double tab washers (presumably to minimise the p...

Re: Energica Eva super naked.

I'm referring to systems which have no fluids at all, much more like an electric motor. AFAIK no one does that on the road yet. They have the potential to be much higher performance. Sorry, I misunderstood. You mean along the lines of the Bose system... https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/259042-bo...

Re: Energica Eva super naked.

Perhaps a slightly more realistic proposition is electric damping. There is no fundamental reason damping has to be hydraulics/gas. You can achieve the same effects with magnets and wires. Audi, amongst others, have been offering magnetic damping as an option for sometime. https://www.audi-technolo...

Not very exciting, I know, but I quite like the Honda Navi from the Indian market. Would make an interesting alternative to a scooter for commuting. Note the removable storage bin under the tank.

Just wondering what people use, tips, tricks and techniques for bleeding their brakes ? Does anyone do ABS systems yet at home and if so, using what method ? One of these. It wasn't anywhere close to this price when I bought mine. :o https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mityvac-MV8000-Test-kit/dp/B00265M9SS/re...

Thanks Taipan  I forgot one detail. RR provide a new side stand that is longer to compensate for the extra travel. Easy swap but a spring puller is recommended as the spring tension only just let me attach it after pulling it with both hands using some needle nose pliers. That's a really n...

That's great. Glad you got a good deal. It definitely pays to shop around. Did you get new pads too? The old ones will have worn to match the surface of the old, worn discs so I wouldn't recommend using them on brand new rotors.

It looks like the real-life manifestation of one of those '90s graphics of a bike where everything was out of proportion. I can't seem to find anything on google to demonstrate what I mean.
