I've had this debate many a time with advanced observers / instructors and they nearly always say "left of centre in case something's overtaking towards you".
On a rural road, that would be a sound choice most of the time, and by keeping left I've certainly avoided a head-on with someone who cocked up an overtake and hadn't completed it before tipping the rise.
If I was in London, I'd be concerned more concerned about a parked vehicle.
There's no right / wrong answer. It's a case of knowing what could go wrong and trying to balance the risk. And of course slowing down a bit so that some evasive action is possible in an emergency.
