I've upped the game on debriefs... you now get a video of the ride (at least, when I don't forget to put the memory card back in the camera) plus a Zoom debrief using some clips from the video! Much improved on the 'quick chat at the end of the ride', the tick-list score chart or even the written debrief I used to offer.

What's the potential hazard you're most likely to encounter?

I've had this debate many a time with advanced observers / instructors and they nearly always say "left of centre in case something's overtaking towards you".

On a rural road, that would be a sound choice most of the time, and by keeping left I've certainly avoided a head-on with someone who cocked up an overtake and hadn't completed it before tipping the rise.

If I was in London, I'd be concerned more concerned about a parked vehicle.

There's no right / wrong answer. It's a case of knowing what could go wrong and trying to balance the risk. And of course slowing down a bit so that some evasive action is possible in an emergency.

I liked the "wheel" you gave me when I had an assessment in the dim & distant past (15 years ago now!) Even then you had thye on-bike camera which I thought worked quite well.

The camera is an upgrade... from a 10fps VGA to full HD! You can see the output at www.youtube.com/survivalskillsuk in my 60 Second Safety vids... the quality is far superior, but the old camera did produce tiny files - a whole afternoon's riding on a 512mb SD card. Now I have a 32gb microSD card to store the footage. The problem was the video processing time - the old PC handled the VGA footage well, but struck a reef with the HD stuff. It would tie up the PC for most of the day. The new PC has a much faster, quad core processor and chomps through it in a reasonable time.

Wiki says they're 'radar plots'. Or ...

I had COMPLETELY forgotten that!

I wonder why I stopped using it? It may have been about the time i lost a shed-load of stuff when a drive partially corrupted but still managed to back itself up and overwrite the storage which I should have been able to restore from. I know I lost a shed-load of digital photos.
