So, went on a proper observed ride today.

We went for about an hour and did 35 or so miles.
Most of it was on tight nadgery lanes where observation and road position were the order of the day. Bit of road debris on the corners and plenty of dappled lanes to mess with your perception.
Apart from too much speed around r/h corners and 1 poor position over a Crest, no real issues

If the answer is 'slower than the speed you went through the bend' then that's not really planning for the bend.

Depends I guess, not as hilly round there as up here, he might have been able to see round the bend?? Have to wait for him to reply!! LOL

Yup, just a guess. But 'blind' is relative the distance you can see ahead.

Or he (another presumption) was leant over so far that the mainstand was levering the back wheel off the ground

As earlier question: how did your observer decide that you were too fast on those bends but not others?

If you thought there was no problem, were you given a good enough explanation to convince you to change and how was it suggested that your speed selection could be improved?

He felt that I was 'attacking' the corner rather than flowing around it.
Personally I think it could be down to different bikes and riding styles and he knows I'm a track god!
As for reducing my score, he said that we could polish up my riding in a couple more runs.
He did state that it was a safe, enjoyable, competent ride with no stand out problems.
He did say in the debrief that they were his opinions, and a different observer might see things in a different light.
Personally, I'm happy he didn't see anything wrong with my riding, and that there are a few areas that can be improved.

I had similar feedback from my last-but-one outing with the IAM. He suggested I needed to 'polish' a few items, but I was almost ready for the test.

Next observer ripped me to shreds. It would be fair to say that his opinion on what was good and safe was very different from mine.

I concluded that I would wait for the IAM to make up it's collective mind and I haven't been back since.

I used to have two teams of instructors.

One set were all Blue Riband instructors, so could provide reasonably consistent 'advanced' training.

The other (overlapping) team all had different specialities, so would be assigned depending on the trainee's particular requirements.

Just had pretty much that discussion in a different place. The rider being assessed has a string of instructing qualifications from CBT through to advanced for two different organisations (NOT the IAM or RoSPA). He wasn't impressed.

It's OK to have different opinions IF you aren't working from a standard syllabus... which the IAM have made a big thing about over the last few years since they started 'training' rather than simply observing. Nobody sees things in QUITE the same way, but you would expect some consistency.

Or you just come to me, get genuinely client-centred training that's not based on a standard riding test and get my honest opinion
