Guy I work with that has a keen interest in watches has just purchased 2 Davosa watches and considering prices they are great pieces of kit - one resembles a Submariner and the other a GMT Batman. Certainly worth a look.....

Never clocked that, actually really nice. I'd never heard of them until my colleague mentioned them but must say quality is up there.....KungFooBob wrote: Thu Apr 01, 2021 6:32 pmv8-powered wrote: Thu Apr 01, 2021 6:26 pm Guy I work with that has a keen interest in watches has just purchased 2 Davosa watches and considering prices they are great pieces of kit - one resembles a Submariner and the other a GMT Batman. I’ve always liked the look of the novelty watches, but having a couple (not the above), they never get any wear time. That would put me off a meistersinger.Potter wrote: Thu Apr 01, 2021 3:36 am If I was buying a watch in that price range I'm fairly sure it would be one of these https://www.meistersinger.com/int/mechanic/automatic/
They make their own movements now, I almost bought one a couple of years ago and I wish I had, they seem to have gone up by about 50% now - or maybe that's just UK prices vs prices here, not sure.
Blowers have this in https://www.chrono24.ae/meistersinger/m ... 967668.htm and that's a good example of inflated prices on C24 because on their website it's cheaper https://www.blowers-jewellers.co.uk/pro ... uto-00179/

Have Tudor got any new models?Potter wrote: Wed Apr 07, 2021 11:54 am The Rolex new releases were a massive disappointment today, they really missed a trick with the 50th anniversary of the Explorer, the new Exp2 is basically the same as the old one.
Even Patek were a big let down with the 5711 last year of production final model, they just stuck a green face on it, no precious metal, nothing innovative.

Explorer 2 is on my want list, was waiting to see what the announcement was regarding the new model but from what I've read little change...Potter wrote: Wed Apr 07, 2021 11:54 am The Rolex new releases were a massive disappointment today, they really missed a trick with the 50th anniversary of the Explorer, the new Exp2 is basically the same as the old one.

Do these posh watch makers set the price at the probable value, or what they can get away with?

A Patek 5711 is currently going for about 3x MRRP on the secondhand market, so Patek could double the price in their stores and they'd still sell.

Potter wrote: Wed Apr 07, 2021 12:40 pmI had exactly that a couple of weeks ago when I was wearing a Patek, I was sat opposite a bloke over a business lunch and he asked me if it was a Citizen. I said "No a Patek" and he said "Ahh, Indian brand?". Another bloke at the table nearly choked on his lunch laughing and the fella sat next to me just said "Ouch"![]()

It's a Patek 5712g.

Looks like Tudor has pretty significantly upstaged Rolex.

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
Just had a browse at the 2021 Tudor models, nothing that really jumps out at me however do quite like the BB bronze and BB58 with the taupe dial.
Contacted my local AD and have been added to the register of interest for an Explorer II, see how long that takes.....

This seems the right place to ask summat that got me thinking.
In the olden days before fancy measuring stuff, how did they measure the tiny stuff in watches ?

If you haven't got the skills to make a measuring device then you're not going to have the skills to make a small mechanical part.

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
You have to wonder where Rolex/Tudor are going with the 18 carat gold BB58. £12,600 is well into Rolex territory.Potter wrote: Thu Apr 08, 2021 11:20 am Just seen pictures of the new Tudor BB58 925.
I really like it, the solid silver case looks quite different from stainless steel. I could definitely see myself wearing one of those.
Don't know about the price but I would wager that it's a pretty sensible purchase in terms of minimal loss (and probably potential gain) if you sold it in the future.
Cheaper and nicer than a Rolex Sub anyway.

My guess would be that Tudor want to claim the stratosphere, whilst Rolex concentrate on the ionosphere.moth wrote: Thu Apr 08, 2021 1:28 pm

Don't expect too many new stainless Rolex models, expect more gold/platinum stuff. Of course in order to maintain the profit Tudor prices will climb to Rolex levels, probably over a decade or so.
That's what I would do if I were Mr Rolex.
