The JAPton has a modified BTH with something similar, not sure where from, but i did find a company that does the mod... I wonder if they've upgraded their offering to include the security feature. Would be a good idea, the JAPton has no security whatsoever, anyone can just given it a kick and ride off on it.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 8:27 am That ignition is cool....it's like the Boyer boxes fitted to a million old bikes, but more advanced. Maybe I should get one

Loving this thread. I've wanted a 2CV since I first drove my mates one in the 90's. It was (looking through rose tinted's maybe?) an absolute hoot to drive.
Never got round to it though.

Dern is going to have to set up some sort of loan-schedule for everyone who wants a go..... Especially if he fits the BMW engine!

Re: 2CV6 Project Thread
The 123 ignition is excellent and the car feels a lot better with the new ignition system, starts a lot better too.
I think the reality of the drive might temper anyone's enthusiasm. I took this on the phone this afternoon and I'm surprised how slow it looks on the road. I wasn't holding up anyone and caught up with several people. What the video doesn't show is just how busy you are driving this kind of car, you don't get a moment to think unless you're on a long straight bit. Although slow, it's a lot of fun.

Looks about as quick as the hybrid Fiat 500 we rented last month, but loads more fun!

I've been watching lots of slow motion vids lately, mainly featuring REs.

Went to watch my mate in the Caterham Cup at Oulton park a few weeks ago and there was 2CV
racing on the same day. We genuinely thought the 2CV's were on their warm up lap when they had
actually started racing, I think they were tuned as well.
Love the thread.

Re: 2CV6 Project Thread
This weekend's job (if I get time) is to work out what's causing this 'small' fuel leak I get when I've filled the car up to the brim. It can only really be the sender unit gasket, the sender unit rusting away or the hose from the sender. The filler tube and hose is dry. I'll find out when I've dropped the tank.

Re: 2CV6 Project Thread
Turned out to be a combination of two things. The first was that the hose to the sender had degraded but the main issue what that the sender itself wasn't secured properly or had come adrift and the gasket wasn't up to the job. I did buy another gasket but can't find it since we tidied up the house to put it up for sale so reused the old one with some appropriate sealant and some better bolts and it's tight.
The tank was completely solid. It's a strong plastic item that seems to have more strength than the rest of the car put together.

Hmm, now this is a rare beast apparently - the Citroen Sahara. A 4 wheel drive based on the 2CV but with two engines -

A mate was driving a 2CV from Lusaka, Zambia back home to the Netherlands last year, last I heard he was struggling to get through the borders in the Sudan but had driven through Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia and the car was still going well ...

Just checked and he made it, six weeks journey time, via Saudi Arabia and Iran, Turkey, up through the Balkans and on to the Netherlands, epic!
