To be honest I always found my normally aspirated 4 strokes always seemed to run better on the cold, crisp morning run to work in Winter. (my fingers & gonads, not so much).

Not that I ride in the early morning any more, certainly not if it's cold FFS. So, on reflection, maybe my 'summer jetting' is and continues to be wonky.

My 2T certainly ran better when there was some moisture in the air. Not exactly steam injection but I think the science backs it up.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.

I've never had a road 2 stroke that was that fickle, even the race ones it's a tiny difference between it being spot on and a little rich, the trouble with running spot on was that it didn't take much for it to go from spot on to lean, and lean means holed pistons, so I always ran a bit rich, I do the same with 4 strokes, not that an 8 valve 1170 that only revs to 9000rpm is especially fussy about jetting (it's more fussy about ignition timing)

A bunch of us got hold of a micrometer and checked whose thumbnail was nearest 25thou for setting plug gaps. :D

But theres fuck all kick back/compression on an a two stroke MZ, I could start my 301 by rocking it backward then forward in gear.

It was more the fact that the pilion peg was sited to catch your ankle bone as you kicked.... My dad was very pissed off about the hole I tore in his boots... (trying to start it in trainers was not going to happen).

I made up a little battery-powered device with a 9v bulb in circuit and a couple of small croc clips. When the light went out the points had opened.

I was sick of the Rizlas getting wet and turning into Rizla-shaped decorations, plus it was more sensitive/accurate.
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

It was also easy to clip a bulb across the moving point and the casing and switch the ignition on. Then the bulb lit up when the points opened.

I never raced, but I remember the TZ350 sidecar guys saying that if they got past Ballacraine on the first lap, they had hopes of finishing the race.

I’m rubbish on a bike, but I’m pretty good at getting kicked back without getting hurt or falling in the gutter. Takes practice!

In that case,when I finally get around to putting my XT600 back together you might be getting a call,it has 3 wires on the ignition pickup & from what I've read it does both the advance & retard.I know where one of the wires goes,but as the other two failed I'm not sure what way around to connect them .I think that if I get them the wrong way round I'll be getting launched over the bars :wtf:
