So how's the van? Well I'm 125 miles and several journeys in now and it's brilliant. It drives lovely and nicely. The engine is getting a bit revvy/noisy over 70, but other than that it's lovely and quiet to drive.
Gearbox is smooth, if a little long between some gears.
Glad you are happy with it.
Try doing a reset on the gearbox adaptations and it will learn your driving style.
See here https://www.mercedesmedic.com/reset-mer ... tructions/
At 70mph, you should be sitting around 2000rpm so engine shouldn't be to noisy.
is it changing up to top gear at this speed??
It will more than likely be the 7 speed auto in yours so you should not be above 2000rpm if you are in 7th gear at 70mph.
Try a reset first and see where you are. Probably just needing a reset and to relearn your driving style.

I'll check rpm next time. The display doesn't show gears, it's shows D. Although earlier I must have moved it left as it was showing 4. But still seemed to be going up and down the gears. Errrrm

Thanks for the link, I'll read that layer

Have you got a manual gear change option? Try changing up when cruising at 70.

Apparently i've got a 6 speed.

Transmission & Drivetrain
Drivetrain Four Wheel Drive
Type of Four Wheel Drive AWD
Transmission Manual
Number of Gears 6

https://www.car.info/en-se/mercedes-ben ... 1798/specs

I'll test it tomorrow.

That's with seats as far back as they go. I think I can move them forward 4-5"

If I tip seats forward the bikes go in with wheels on.

BTW, re wired/wireless CarPlay/AA, you can buy a little dooberry that plugs into a USB port and makes a wired connection wireless. I have/had one and it works pretty well, though it's a hundred quid. Still, quite useful for some.

Weeksy just a heads up, with that head unit be aware they draw a fair bit of battery power. So if you’re at a track day with the radio on all day you can flatten your battery to the point the van won’t start.

Just tried the zx6 with the 2nd row of seats folded forward, it's about 2" short. I could take out the left hand single and wangle it in on the diagonal, but not with the chock for front wheel. So it'll be all 3 out for track stuff.

You can get a single that's a 'captains' and stand alone, but depends if the wife is happy with our lad in the back with the bike next to him.

Probably safer than in the front with the bike behind him but I wouldn't try that as an argument.

At the end of the day, it'll be carrying a motorbike at times one way or another. We have to accept that.

The only alternative to that is a full on bulkhead van and we really don't see that as an option currently.

I had a bulkhead and it wouldn't have done much to stop a motorbike coming through.

My chock is up against the bulkhead and then the bars are strapped to the tie down points at the foot of the bulkhead. I think the bulkhead will be designed to stop load coming forward to a point but not if it came from the back of the van and arrived at speed. I'm also going to shift the back of the bike to the side of the van and then ratchet it to the rear most tie down point. I would definitely do that with your setup as I can't see any other way of stopping it coming forward. Have you got a load rating on the tie down points? It's written on a sticker in the van but I can't recall what it says.

Just keep the air flow moving as the heat in the car will make the fuel tank breath fuel vapour.

You might have tie down points hidden behind some of the interior, if you find a plan of where they are in the standard van then you can work out where some might be hidden in yours.
My guess is you have extra as the seat mounts must be rated pretty high. Look for advice on transporting wheelchairs, taxi drivers need good anchors for that.

I've got loads once seats are out yeah.
