Re: Longest day challenge hawkati bike
Great vid, I don't go far without a cable tie or 2 these days, you just never know. 👍
Probably got half a dozen assorted size cable ties in the tank bag at all times.
But bought some ally recently to make proper bracketsess - can't be doing with bits falling off if you're doing a thousand miles ...

Re: Moto GP Australia
Phillip Island is an absolute gem of a circuit and it'll be a bloody shame if it does get shifted. Especially to a street circuit - they're shit and with close proximity walls it's a miracle that we've not seen f1 cars bouncing back into the pack so far. The potential for carnage is great and the ...

Re: Longest day challenge hawkati bike
Oh - to add, extra expenditure is allowed for tyres and brakes - essential stuff to hope for a safe event. Let's face it, it's not a race (it is) but anyone getting plastered across the landscape would wreck the event entirely for everyone, not just any poor bugger that crashes so it's aimed to ...

Re: Longest day challenge hawkati bike
@hawkati How does the "£300 qualifying rule" for the bikes work in practice? Is it really loose or is it rigorously policed?
Presumably your bitsa is built from stuff you had accumulated in the shed, so is that effectively £0? What about additional parts to make it all work?
Heya - it's a £600 ...

Re: Longest day challenge hawkati bike
I've done the odd 500 mile day on my old Bros and was relatively fine - you get off it often enough to fill up the piddly tank anyway.
If i had any common sense at all I'd use my old hawk- it's done the event twice with absolutely no bother and I've felt fine after a couple of days. Seems I'm ...

Re: Longest day challenge hawkati bike
Nice one but, I wouldn't want to be riding that much further than the local shops. Book yourself a Chiropractor for after.
He did it on a 916 I think one year
My old 996 - I'd built unklefukker- a cbr 400 with a 929 blade engine, but the loom was toast. It did for 17 main fuses then burned ...

Re: Longest day challenge hawkati bike
Top work!
I was following a guy on YT last year who did (sadly failed to complete) last year's LDC with a streetfightery NTV.
Are you planning to finish the build in good time, or the night before? :D
Hoping (haaaaa!😂) to have it running & road legal by the beginning of may. Just gotta keep ...

Re: Projects using JB Weld
Just to add that a couple of years ago when I was riding round europe the frame tubing between the swingarm mount and top shock mount cracked all the way round on my ducati 1198s. After having some kind of existential crisis for ten minutes wondering what to do I went to a DIY store and bought some ...

Re: Longest day challenge hawkati bike
The strange thing is the engines are so similar that it's a natural fit - both 60 degree v twins. The top rear engine mount is almost identical and it took just slicing a bit off the front frame spars to get the front sprocket in the optimum position and then make up some new mounts. I started a ...

Longest day challenge hawkati bike
Jaysus....I'd had this as an idea for several hundred decades, then just as i was going to sell a bunch of parts & bin the rest johnnymac tells me the bike is in the spirit of ldc. For those that don't know, it's a ride from land's end to john o'groats on June 21st - one day, budget bikes, no ...

Re: Portimao Nov 1st, 2nd & 3rd
Just to add that is a stunning track and a great location- stayed in marina hotel at portimao. I've ridden there three times now and the combination of road trip, three days on track and all the sea, sand, cliffs, restaurants bars & clubs has made it pretty essential to me these days...

Re: New 916 ??
Had a couple of 996's over a twenty year span - love the looks of them but finally grew out of the bike - it did everything so very well (apart from urban riding) but I got too familiar with them. I'd pin it from the lights and five minutes later I'd have forgotten that sensation.

Re: Aragon MotoGP
Delighted that mir had a good run of it, and there was plenty of action going on behind the predictable bros. Muchly hoping the front end issue on the bagpuss bike is sorted now so he can stir things up at the front again.
