Re: Buy a r1100gs that has been under a cover in the road for 4 years

I'd expect the clutch to be stuck together and be really careful when first putting it in gear.

Re: Moto Morini Corsaro GT

WTF would anyone release a bike with 96 horsepower these days?
It's neither 100hp to impress the Americans, nor 93.9 horsepower so a European learner could restrict it to A2.

Re: The bargain Himalayan

Maybe the steel lines weren't fitted well, perhaps the copper washers were reused or doubled up? Can help to tap the banjo bolts with a hammer to squish the washers a bit more, and retorque.

Re: The bargain Himalayan

On the BMW's if you let air into the abs pump, you had to use the service tool to cycle the pump to bleed it properly. Alternatively, cycling the abs by skidding the wheel was meant to work, but when it's the front brake you generally want to avoid using the abs!

Re: The bargain Himalayan

Those have bybre brakes on them which are based upon the low end Brembo stuff. I hated the brake on my f650gs and g650gs, and that's what the master cylinder is based on. There's something weird about how the lever acts on the master cylinder, not to mention the cylinder bores seemed a poor match. Y...

Re: FAZ 600 - Time Warp 2004 Yamaha FZ6SA

I've still not ridden the poor FZ in ages. Seriously thinking to let her go now, as it's a shame to keep it as just a garage ornament. I tried rewiring the immobiliser delete to only get power with the ignition on: Fairing infills off, tank propped up, airbox off, find the gizmo, rewire the gizmo. I...

We did that one higher up already.

My biggest issue with it was how the neck is now triangulated with a Bluetooth front engine mount.

Just saw that short and two neurons collided, is all.
Maybe the pads are physically binding in your caliper in a similar way? Those are some old calipers and it's a big bus of a bike, so it's possible road salt and general wear has caused something similar over time.

Re: Himalayan 452

Over here on Malta they want 7200€ OTR for the 452.
The Honda nx500 can be bought for 7600€ plus OTR charges.

Especially considering their road tax bands are the same and most insurers also base rates on capacity still,
I can't see that 500€ difference being enough, for a lot of people.

Re: Leccy Problem

It looks like they're using the bearing's seal as a grease seal to keep the gearbox and motor separated. It's ok for a cheap machine, but it's clearly allowed some grease down into the motor. That might be gunking up the brushes. If it starts doing it again, try a bit harder to get the brush caps ou...

Re: Leccy Problem

It's not sealed, there's a bearing at each end of the armature and the bottom one is pressed into the housing. Since it's only into plastic, a good tap on the workbench should dislodge it. You'd need to take the brushes out first, as they'll be holding the armature in to some degree. But seeing as i...

Re: Leccy Problem

For sure there will be brushes running against the armature. Even nowadays it'd be very rare to find a brushless motor in a mains tool. There are carbon brushes either side of the armature, in brass holders, with a spring pressing them to the armature, which is what creates the electromagnetism to m...

If you can't afford to tax a bike, it might be time to admit you don't need it.

Re: Can you still put written off bikes back on the road?

If the frame is damaged in any way, especially if it's an aluminium frame, I would be surprised if it'll be categorised to be allowed back on the road.

My Rotax 650 also had 5 gears, and no positive stop at either end. Also a really long travel on the gear pedal, since it was a direct lever without linkage. That wasn't the final nail, but it was one of them. Glad you're enjoying it :) That's mad that the side panels aren't even screwed on. When are...

Re: Tool chest on wheels.

I've got this sort of thing. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/4joAAOSwmvRb0yZh/s-l1600.webp I have the same one but in red. I suspect they make miwwions of these in China every year. Top quality? No. There are no bearings on the runners, the up-and-over cupboard front is kinda squeaky, etc. But is it...

You want a nice BSA Gold Star, you're already familiar with the engine :)

CBR 250 - another one if I can find it.
FZ6S - nothing with over 50hp. Maybe a cb500x, maybe a Grom!
