Re: MTB Tyre rolling resistance

Intriguing. You'd think that a) increasing the size of the contact patch and b) introducing more flex due to tyre size and lower pressure would increase losses in energy transfer. ie be less efficient.

Are modern bike tyres ultra stiff?

I think about it sometimes but more in a "hmm I'm closer to death now than I was 10 years ago" kind of thinking, but it doesn't really bother me.

Re: Friday thread, the server disaster week.

I’m in Siena this weekend for the Giro d’Italia so today we rode out and did some lovely roads and sections of the Strade Bianchi, I love Italy and Tuscany has been a delight so far.

Tomorrow more of the same with more dirt roads than paved planned.

Sunday see the finish of the Giro in Siena.

I don't know about a lot of the stuff mentioned, but by far and away the most concerning development i've noticed as I get older is that every single person seems to walk quicker than me nowadays. :(

I was going to suggest the F1 at Monaco as they could then move on to somewhere nice in the South of France for mum, but if he's not into actually watching the race you could tell him that you don't see much of it anyway lol

(In the 'Uplift Universe' novels by David Brin, dolphins operate starships 'cos they're good at navigating 3D space. I expect they'd cope with zero g quite well too).

They do that in Star Trek too - starting in TNG there are very small references to "Cetacean Ops" which were mostly a joke ...

UCI Cyclocross World Champs

Went to the UCI Cyclocross world champs in Lienvan, France this weekend and what a blast it was. Got to see the Brits win the mixed team relay on the Friday and Zoe Backstedt win the U23 women's on the Sunday. The atmosphere is brilliant and you get to see so much of the event as you can walk around ...

The Walk-In starring Stephen Graham. I missed this when it was on ITV but binged it on Netflix yesterday. It is based on the true story of Hope not Hate helping an insider prosecute memebrs of Natinal Action, a group of Neo Nazi terrorists. What I found particularly chilling was that the language ...

Just to add facts (I know we don't like them):

In 2022 RNLI rescued 108 channel migrants out of nearly 46 000 migrants, a mere drop in the ocean :D

I can't find figures for 2023 or 2024 but no one seems to be suggesting it has increased.

Re: Box Sets, Mini series, films, etc.

Day of the Jackal on Sky, not the old film with Edward Fox but the ne series with Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch. It’s not very good, the new plot is too convoluted compared to the book/film and the “good guy” (Lynch) has killed as many people as the villain. The addition of a wife for the Jackal ...

It boils down to an old man who could fight and a young man who can't fight. I just hope Tyson loses his rag and lands a solid hook on Jake Paul's jaw, hopefully that'll get rid of him for good.

Kinda hoping he lands that one punch that puts the fucker in a wheelchair & unable to wipe his own ...
