Went to a carboot yesterday, after a failed attempt to visit Tesco, shut, so wondered over. Mostly crap, did buy a pork and caramelised onion pork pie, yum yum, then I found a knife stall. Small one's, big one's , allsorts.

If you fancied stabbing someone, and the potential punishment didn't deter you, I'm sure the ideal weapon was available. 🗡

Interesting, all I've read says 'zombie style knives and machetes' are banned so just prep your case now - 'This is clearly not a zombie style machete it's an ordinary gardening style one'.

I brought back 2 kukris from Nepal. Lovely things and sharp as fuck.

I used to live about a quarter off mile up the hill from Doug Scott (a pretty famous UK climber) and during primary school age I used to knock about with one of his daughters.
She had a few really well made Kukris (I was kind of jealous as I had one nice sheath knife, an Opinel and an OK swiss army knife and the rest were cheap tat) and various other traditional knife designs that her father had bought for her whilst on various climbing expeditions round the world.
At a guess I reckon she would have been about eight years old then.
Last I heard she grew up to be a medical doctor so I'm pretty sure owning pretty serious knives at a young age didn't drive her into madness.

I always wanted to live in the 50's, but only for the music and girl's fashion!!! Bloody love the fifties dresses and skirts, hairstyles and the music is just AWESOME!!!!!!

I was there. It wasn't as good as you think.

The Swinging Sixties was very much a city thing, country girls were still pretty buttoned up. Late 50s was even worse.
And I was not joking about ice on the inside of bedroom windows. Oh, I forgot to mention outdoor toilets.

I had ice on the inside of my bedroom window in the 70's and 80's !!!!

I don't particularly want to go back in time.

(But I'd be happy bringing my 35 year old body forward. TBH I'd take my 55 year old one right now ).

I am sitting here trying to remember a point in time I hadn't damaged something

But yeah - probably about 30 would be aces, let's be honest, my mind is still struggling to actually get to be 30 So if I could get my 30 year old body back, I reckon I'd feel loads better (long enough after the second vertebra break and before too much other damage )

I 100% noticed a massive change in attitudes on the slopes after Covid - I don't think it's got worse since, but it's definitely much worse than precovid
But total lack of concern for anyone else is a huge problem

Overall, I had a happy growing up in general. Parents divorce caused some issues, living in the middle of nowhere was great but also bad with lack of socialising (I'm still shit at social stuff).

It was when I left home and was surviving on my own, I realised that, whilst idylic in some ways (horses - although not our own, we stabled them and rode them for other people! -, sailing, living in the middle of the countryside), there was some serious emotional damage!

My only regret in life is that I never met anyone to have kids with - but I know that the reason I didn't was because I was never in the right headspace emotionally to deal with relationships (and our family history of relationships is NOT good!!).


However, like the proverbial ripple or butterfly, had ANY little thing been different, I would not be living somewhere awesome, I wouldn't have learnt how ride bikes like I did, or go racing (slowly!); I live somewhere that makes me feel calm and happy. Ok, I struggle to make friends up here, but I have made some great friends away from resort. And, there's a good chance that I have met someone amazing Yes, cultural and language differences are a challenge to comms, but I am hoping that actually, this is the most awesome thing of all

I don't wanna go back. I just wish I had a less broken body
