Ignition Coils

Aprilia Caponord ETV1000 2007 (Gen 2).

It has four coils, two per cylinder, all the same. Bike appears to run fine at idle but under load bogs down quite badly. If running at idle and in the garage, it doesn't take long to get high on the petrol fumes so I guess there's unburnt fuel. One of the rear coil has a crack and you could see the spark arcing to the frame. I've tried wrapping it in rubber amalgamating tape but it's no better so I'm trying to source a reasonably priced replacements - Aprilia want £300 for a new one!

All suggested replacements (Renault Laguna V6, Clio V6 and Citreon V6) coils have a female connector on the coil whilst I need a male connector.

My questions - can the connections be swapped or adapted? I assume not. If not, could I not just swap out the HT lead for one that would fit? I've spent £130 on coils which *should* fit and am beginning to regret not phoning the Aprilia dealer to start with.

Thank you, haven't seen that particular page before and it explains the "woodscrew" that I'd been reading about on the Aprilia forum. I have a few that I can practice on at least. :thumbup:

In theory any coil of the right resistance will work, they only need the two wires connected, it doesn't matter which way round, and the HT lead to go to a spark plug.

Any HT lead will work.

Why not convert it to stick coils?

Ta. It's already on stick coils. I was wondering if getting the 'right' coil was more to do with it fitting in the space rather than delivering the spark.

Have you thought of giving Griff Wooley at AP Workshops in Tamworth a call? I know he has used spares for Falcos, Milles, Tuonos etc. He may well know a cheaper workaround or alternative.
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.
