Electrical multi connectors

Post by iansoady »

Having been brought up on Lucas bullets which are simplicity themselves to dismantle - in fact have been know to do it themselves - I've always had trouble with the multi connectors found on more modern bikes - the one with a sprung barb to hold them together. Like this:

I reasoned that there must be a tool to help with this, and after some searching I found this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/375506485883 ... 4438651112

It arrived this morning so I rushed out to the garage to try it. I have to report that, although not perfect - finish a bit rough - it did the job with no problems. I can recommend this tool. Obviously not something you need every day but invaluable when you do.

I thought the tool you showed was more hose related than electrical..

Except when they’re stuck.

I always use a screwdriver from one of those "Jewellers" sets. The key is to figure out where to insert it!

No, you apply it to the connector so that one of the arms depresses the latch. Those connectors can be a nightmare leaving broken fingernails and the air blue with curses.

Roadster - the tool os to disconnect the connectors not remove the terminals from inside.

It might work, but thems hose / spark plug pliers.
Proper disconnect pliers have a different head, they even show it in one of their advertising photos (top right)

But if it works for you then go with it

As I say, it does work for me and have used it a couple of times now. Could you let us know where the "correct" item can be got from?

All over the internet, I've never bothered as the only ones that give me grief are usually hidden away and I'd risk more damage to the wires

Yes... That tool also raises the tab on locking push tab connectors but it's useful to have it shown.
