An Enduro Weekend in the Sun?

Post by Yorick »

Iccy said his whim is a day trail riding with me, then beers by the pool. (I'm doing that bit now ;) )

So just wondering if anybody fancied it for real?

I can borrow bikes for €50 a day. Tenner a day lodgings here to cover food etc.

We have 2 spare double bedrooms free now.
From April the appt is free which sleeps 4.

Two of my pals do enduro days out for €160. So this is a bargain. I'm making nowt, but will get a helluva buzz showing you the best parts of the island where no bugger can get to.

Just an idea for after your lockdown.

Yes I fancy it, had a fantastic trail riding holiday in Crete 20 years ago, but I'm rusty as hell off road, I'd be better off on a trials bike.
I'll let you know when the Covid crap is over.

Cool bananas. Flights are dirt cheap if you get the right time.

There's a vast array of terrain to suit all abilities.
Each time I take out our lass, I get a bit more daring.

The lads I go with do some mental stuff.

Then the competition lads are summat else

Was a very pleasant 28c today. Even in deepest winter, it always hits at least 20c every day. The mix of terrain is awesome. Impossible to set suspension for all of them.

Yup. I love having pals over and showing them round. Take most folk out in the 4WD and the more daring I take to the rough stuff on the bikes :)

I mentioned it to my missus, not the trail riding bit, but I said I knew someone in Lanzarote and we should think about a visit - we've been meaning to visit there for a couple of decades because we used to have friends there who have left now and we never got around to it - but recently when I looked there weren't any direct flights and connecting flights were all buggered up because of covid.

I think realistically covid is going to knacker up most travel, I've got a mate and his wife been trying to visit us for ages but the quarantine and not wanting to risk being stuck somewhere has put paid to those plans for this year. We've got loads of room and we live on a beach, so we normally get a steady stream of visitors but since my mum left in Feb we haven't had anyone over.

Is that the hill next door to Femes? I've ridden my road bike (cycle) up there and my MTB up to the aerials up there. But the latter was a while ago (about 8 years) and it looks a little familiar but I'm not sure!

Yup. We rode up from Yaiza. Then dropped down to Femes.
Then a direct route down to Playa Quemeda.

That's a really generous offer, looks like it would be a fantastic weekend!

Hope you get more visitors out to the island after the restrictions lift. :)

The terrain looks awesome.
I’d pay double that for the crack. Hopefully covid buggers off and allows you to make it happen.
If not I’m sure I and others look forward to your ride reports as a poor but welcome substitute.

I look forward to many reports from many riders, but you seem like a lazy bunch of buggers at times when it comes to content

Or just lack the ability to make it sound anything other than mundane. :(

Granted... that's why we have DIY sections, Cycling, MAyhem, etc etc etc.

Now.... back to the thread.

We went up there today but in opposite direction.
The climb from Femes was tough on the Husky.
You must be mad to do it on bicycles

Not going to lie, it's a very tough climb for me.

The road climb up from the PB side to Femes is bad enough, steep enough that it's miserable on road bike gearing (unless you've got a big cassette or are a whippet) but the off road one from there up to that peak is grim even on MTB gearing. I prefer to go up the route from the roundabout at Yaiza/Uga up the back of the hill - although it's "nice" to be protected from the wind for most of the climb it's also brutally hot.
