The scout is one of the only cruiser type bikes I think looks alright. And I really like the Flattracker thing.

Plenty of people are willing to pay £20k to look like a racer while 50 pencing it around every corner.

Plenty more willing to pay £20k to look like they're about to start the Paris-Dakar when they only ever ride up a muddy track.

Somewhere in the clouds at the back of my mind, one of these features as part of a road trip for the wife and I. Not owning one, just renting one in America somewhere...

That's not for me, it would be fun for a few hours and then I'd be fed up.
A road trip sounds good in theory, but all those hours driving or riding would get a bit wearing for me.

I’ve vaguely considered the USA for that but 2-300 miles a day is simply too much considering it doesn’t leave you much time for actually sightseeing.

Although if others have done it I’d be happy to be proved wrong.

It's America, there's not a lot to see. I've done the Henry Cole series enough to know what you'll find, Diners and random places with random stuff.

For me i can't think of a worse trip than US on a motorbike. I peak at 45 mins on a motorbike though so i'm an exception.

You're kidding right? I think it's around 3.5 million square miles with everything from amazing geology, fauna, wildlife, cities, small towns, incredible modern architecture, beaches, lakes and some of the best paved and unpaved roads and trails on the planet. Its why a lot of Americans never go abroad, they have everything there!

No, i'm not really. When i think of places like Andalusia, or the Alps, you get great views, epic vistas but twisty bendy roads to go with it.

I don't care about plants, wildlife or indeed cities, beaches and lakes, meh, not so much either... But you also need interesting roads to get to these places and i think finding them in the US would be tricky beyond words.

The Tracer forum has many US members. Some of the photos I've seen are fantastic, including twisty mountain ranges. Yep, there is long desert highways but they do have the nice bits aswel.
