If it's allowed on them.

Typically, automated systems are designed to operate in an 'ODD', operating design domain. Add in geofencing to restrict travel.
MK is criss-crossed by dual carriageway and fast 60 mph single carriageways. It would be a challenge to route from A to B across MK without using them for at least part of the journey, and, even if you did manage that, you would have to cross them on uncontrolled crossings which is just as terrifying.

Fair enough. I haven't been there for 30 years.

As I said 'typically', so - hopefully - it'll all be sorted :)

They could just drive around Central MK, that's a US style city centre with a perfectly regular grid of 30mph roads :D However all the roads which bound the city centre (the ones with the bigger roundabouts on) are 70mph duals.

They could, and perhaps as a 'special' taxi, limited to CMK, they might find a use. However I suspect that is a pretty limited market.

And I have seen cars doing waaaay more that 30 mph along the Boulevards. :D

Milton Keynes has already been the site of a 'driverless taxi pod' trial four years ago.

I don't know how that trial ended - there are plenty of stories about it starting, but I've not seen any reports or conclusions.

So very much still a 'work in progress'.

From the limited involvement I've had, they all are. Those still ongoing, that is.

I was going to go and have a go, I was also tempted to try getting run over :D

I could never find out how for either.

I've seen video from trials where members of the public deliberately stood in front of an AV.

The AV stopped in time BTW.

That will work well in busy London. Peds will stop traffic until it is gridlocked, and then stand about laughing.

I foresee a new Saturday night game of 'herding' AVs.

The Toyota at the Tokyo Paralympics didn't - it ran down the partially-sighted athlete and injured him so badly he couldn't compete.

Don't think I've ever claimed that AVs are perfect.

FWIW I'd also seen videos of the closed road testing that system had been through.

AFAIK, there are no AVs running on UK roads without a safety driver. Unfortunately your linked report doesn't say whether or not the Toyota had one. And, as I've said before, a UK safety driver is a league apart from those in some other countries.

The Toyota one sounds like half a league, half a league, half a league onward.
