I would be less happy with a confused car on a 70mph dual carriageway.

If it's allowed on them.

Typically, automated systems are designed to operate in an 'ODD', operating design domain. Add in geofencing to restrict travel.

MK is criss-crossed by dual carriageway and fast 60 mph single carriageways. It would be a challenge to route from A to B across MK without using them for at least part of the journey, and, even if you did manage that, you would have to cross them on uncontrolled crossings which is just as terrifying.

They could just drive around Central MK, that's a US style city centre with a perfectly regular grid of 30mph roads However all the roads which bound the city centre (the ones with the bigger roundabouts on) are 70mph duals.

They could, and perhaps as a 'special' taxi, limited to CMK, they might find a use. However I suspect that is a pretty limited market.

And I have seen cars doing waaaay more that 30 mph along the Boulevards.

AFAIK, there are no AVs running on UK roads without a safety driver. Unfortunately your linked report doesn't say whether or not the Toyota had one. And, as I've said before, a UK safety driver is a league apart from those in some other countries.
