Re: Rsv Mille gen 1
With the Mille it is the R’s that come with Ohlins as standard, SP had Ohlins as well but it was purely a homologation special a bit like the M for the S1000RR that had a short stroke motor.

My username comes from having owned several RSV-R's BITD and also having a side hustle buying RSV-r's and breaking them as there was a demand for the R parts (Ohlins, Oz, carbon bodywork etc.) from standard RSV owners and the rest of the parts from all folks.

Sorry, only just seen this thread.BBB wrote: Thu Jan 04, 2024 1:18 pm
Anyone had much experience with the g1 milles? May have questions as things progress.
Feel free to PM me, I'll help as much as I can. I've had a couple, I know enough about them to get by. Crucially I'm lucky enough that Griff (of AP Workshops fame) is a friend and though I am certain most of what he has taught me hasn't stuck, some of it certainly has...
Nice bike BTW. Early Gen1 with the larger steel tank by the looks of it. Getting rarer and rarer and more desirable!
Re: Rsv Mille gen 1
Cheers mboy good to know someone who knows.
Progress has been slow but steady and mostly amassing parts of ebay.
Mines missing the exhaust shield / fairing mount as they all seem to. Previous owner had drilled the fairing to fit a metal bar instead
got a second hand one with a hefty burn on its way. It'll do until something better and affordable arrives.

Re: Rsv Mille gen 1
Does anyone know whether the subframe was painted or brush finished or equivalent ?
Subframe is looking scruffy don't want to powder coat if I can replicate the correct finish with Scotchbrite

Re: Rsv Mille gen 1
Best thing to do @BBB , much as most of us don't like social media, is to get into all the relevant Aprilia facebook groups on Facebook. Griff frequents most of them, but there's a handful of genuinely knowledgable guys policing them too. The "AP Workshops" own one is the best unsurprisingly. There's a lot of knowledge out there, much more than I can impart, but it's mostly all on facebook now annoyingly...

There's also Apriliaforum.com, which is primarily Septic-based but has a lot of good historical information on the Rotax V60-based bikes as well as more modern stuff. And if you speak German, there's also Apriliaforum.net...

Not updated this in a long time. Seems to be an endless succession of fixing one issue and finding another three in the process.
Not back on the road yet. Maybe this year...
So far.
Coolant pump cover and hoses replaced, coolant manifold stripped and painted. Replacement rads bought and painted now fitted. New bolts and hose clamps.
Oil cooler and associated hoses replaced.
Oil tank sanded and painted new o rings coper washers fitted
Nitron rear shock and later AP Workshops dogbone and plates fitted with new seals bearings and spooky washers.
New swingarm bearings
Wheels and cush drive off for powder coat
Throttle bodies cleaned but will need setting up by AP
Air box and K&N cleaned, rotted drain hose replaced
Engine cleaned with scotchbrite and acf 50
Breather and drain hoses replaced
Oberon clutch slave to replace the leaking oe part.
Levers rebuilt missing parts from the clutch lever sourced.
New venhill clutch and brake hoses
Brake calipers fully refurbed
Carbon dash and hugger from an R fitted
Headlamp stripped and restored to the best of my abilities. Reflectors will need doing professionally at some point and the lens has the usual yellowing and spidering.
IG has some pics but by no means everything

Re: Rsv Mille gen 1
Wowser! It's not exactly a wipe over with an oily rag, a few squirts of WD40 and a fluids change job you're doing there!
It's going to be better than new.

The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.
Re: Rsv Mille gen 1
Let the bike warm up and gave it a bit of a rev. Annoying to see there is a coolant and an oil leak. Overcome the urge to push it into the road and set it on fire and have started stripping it instead.
Re: Rsv Mille gen 1
Traced the coolant leak to the hose that runs from the top of the front cylinder to the back of the thermostat. Happily had already bought a NOS replacement, there was a bit of a gouge on the spigot so added some dirko sealant.
Oil leak was where the rear master cylinder bolts through the engine cover into the block. Nipped that bolt up this morning and ran the engine up to temp.
Looked fluid tight this afternoon but have left a white puppy training pad under the bike to confirm.

Re: Rsv Mille gen 1
Still leak free so have fitted the front fairing, mirrors and air ducts, added a set of AP workshops rad guards too.
Need to sort connectors for the indicators before I can fit the side panels
