Rsv Mille gen 1

Not looking seriously for another bike as not anywhere near finishing the S3 but this popped up locally on ebay with a very good price. Would have been rude not too.

Needs a bit of tl but has a solid Mot history and around £2k worth of receipts from AP Workshops. Doesn't look the owner has been overly considerate in their care and maintenance so a bit of work to do.

Have noticed its dripped a bit of coolant but hoping just a hose or clamp issue.

Anyone had much experience with the g1 milles? May have questions as things progress.

Can't see you image, has it got a shiny tank or a matt tank, I think the matt tanked ones are faster, but I can't remember as it was 24 years ago that a mate raced one.

I've owned a Gen1 and a Gen2 - can be a bit hard work if neglected and a fair few bits to look out for, depends how cheap is cheap really...

Plastic tanks can swell, swingarm recall, reg-rec melting, oil levels due to dry sump and stupid owners. But to be fair similar to most bike of the era...

This one's got the metal tank and the recall was the early gen 2 bikes. Reg rec brown connector along with the starting circuit is a weak point.

Yup , a few of us on here have, including me and @2xtwins - I've still got a Gen1 Tuono and Kev his Gen1 Millie that he's owned for best part of 20 years now I think, and he's got Dern's Gen2 now too :)

Not without their little foibles as others have said, but all easily addressed, they are great bikes overall IMO, and the Rotax V60 is cracking fun and a very robust engine :thumbup:

My mate's one definitely had a plastic tank and had different wheels to that one, his was a year 2000 one, might have been some sort of SP and was raced in the Mille cup, he got a few podiums on it, and then raced it in BEMSEE Powerbike, before it attempted to kill him by hitting Brands pit wall (it did kill him but he was revived in the air ambulance)

There was an SP version but it was a very limited edition and had virtually no commonality with the cooking versions.

Check the rear suspension dog bone, seems like corrosion gets between the aluminium and the bearing and pushes them apart like a face hugger.

Have been watching a lot of the ap workshops YouTube stuff to give me an idea of what to look at.

Until I sell the zx6r work will consist of stripping, cleaning, checking and greasing. Will be investing in parts once the bike sells and funds are available.

Sadly the fairings have been drilled for crash bungs.

The suspension linkage is definitely a candidate for a yearly check, dismantle and re-grease. The correct bearings can be hard to find, as they are unusual in that the needle rollers are loose, not caged. They're called a 'full complement' bearing and people often make the mistake of thinking they've lost one of the needle rollers when in fact they are designed to have some working clearance.

Did the SP have Ohlins suspension, or did all of them have Ohlins, Brian's definitely had Ohlins forks and shock.

The R models had Ohlins, and the SP certainly did. The SP had a different, short stroke motor and the suspension linkage was different and non-interchangeable with the road models. They only produced 150 of the SP models as a homologation special.
