I like the B&R but in the back of my mind I can't help feeling that it's just a blatant copy of the black Rolex Explorer 2 and I have one, so I don't need the B&R. Unfortunately B&R seem to have jumped on the copy bandwagon and they've done that GMT and other stuff like their BR05 (with SS bracelet) which seems to be their version of a Nautilus with a blue face.
I always felt they trod their own path, at least at first, they were never a serious horology house but they were good designers and brought something a bit fresh, although now jumping on the bandwagon seems to be more about revenue than fresh ideas.

I've been wearing my wife's B&R black BRS a lot lately, it looks quite stealthy in all black and it's a nice size on the wrist (39mm), plus it's got a BR03 strap on so it looks retro, like a band.
It's already a bit battered, we bought it at Christmas 2010 and my wife doesn't treat watches kindly, so it's got a new strap but the case has some marks and looks quite cool, plus I don't need to worry about knocking it about. It doesn't look great in pictures but IRL it looks as good as my Nautilus (IMHO).

IMHO, that looks like a £5.99 special from Lidl.

My chap at Rolex called with a yellow gold 41mm submariner that had just come in, but I don't fancy another one, I could flip it at the grey dealers down the road and make a couple of grand but if Rolex found out I'd be blacklisted and no more watches for me. I asked him to swap it out with a stainless steel submariner for my sons 18th birthday which is later this year but he said he couldn't, so I passed on it. My lad wouldn't wear a solid gold sub, it's an elder statesman's watch and it's too expensive to send an 18yr old kid out in anyway.

I feel a bit burned out with watches, there isn't any that I really want now I've got the ones I wanted.

I'd have thought a Rolex would be a bit over the top for a youngster anyway.

Have to say that a good automatic is something special though, if your kid is in any way mechanically minded? I know that at 18 I was dead chuffed to receive my TAG Heuer auto and its the one watch I've kept all these years (I've had lots of others), because it's not only a lovely piece of machinery and tough as old boots, but also because it's tangible evidence of my father's love for me. Now he's gone that's even more important to me.

A decent modern auto that will last many years will still be a good gift for your boy.

Shit name I know but very good service.

Sent them my Omega Seamaster for a new bezel as I'd twatted it on the side of the house and scraped it pretty badly. They spoke to Omega (they are an authorised agent) and managed to get the bezel replaced FOC under warranty due to it being faded (21 years old!) despite my damage. Only charged me fitting which was very reasonable.

My Seamaster is up 285% but I did buy it 21 years ago when prices were mega-low and my Sub is up 30%

If I could get anything near RRP I'd be throwing my money their way.....

Honestly, he doesn't give a shit, he cares not a jot for material things, he's never coveted them because since he was born we've always been able to have them if we wanted. Him and his mates don't wear designer stuff, it's just whatever shorts and t-shirt come to hand, they could all have whatever they want (within reason) so that latest fashion competition thing you get with most kids in the UK just doesn't exist here.

Children are such a disappointment.

I haven't paid any attention to watches for a couple of months, but I had a check today and according to the tracking site my watches have gone up between 20-55%, there is one that has gone up 187% but that's an outlier.

Quick check on the forums and people are struggling to get any stainless steel Rolex or Patek watches, common response from dealers seems to be a 3-5yr waiting list, so that should keep values high.

I suppose the trick is knowing when interest rates will increase to a decent rate and then to sell them just before that happens.
My 5711 is never getting sold, it's my daily wearer and I can't ever imagine being willing to part with it.

I had,'t looked at the tracker for a couple of months, suddenly found that apparently (according to MyChrono) my old 1979 stainless Rolex oyster datejust with stainless fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet seems to have nearly doubled in value in 3 months, can this be true?

Wouldn't be surprised in the least, demand is very high at the moment. My Sub is knocking on 10K again, friends Daytona is well over 20k now.

I should have a new addition soon, have a Speedmaster making its way to me this week.

Tis interesting the taste in watches - the Monaco is probably the most gauche watch I have ever seen. It scares me that I nearly bought one!

I consulted the wife - who has way better taste than me - she just laughed!

I quite like the Monaco. I wouldn't describe it as Gauche - it's certainly it's own thing though, I'll give it that. I'm thinking I might buy one for my 40th in a few year's time. Or I might not.
