The RS wasn't too bad.

Ah, I took as being the 'fightered*version of an adventure bike.

*Is there a specific word for this?

'Catastrophic' or 'Insult to the eyes'?

Although I would never have the nerve to do it, I thought that an early RS could look good if seat unit was removed and a single seat, supported from the front, added. Then remove most of the front mudguard and, at the rear, add a hugger mudguard.
Even bland can be a type of character

Interestingly the exhaust still wraps around the front of the engine, I guess to lengthen the header pip for more power.

I had one of those. I was commuting 80 miles a day at the time and it seemed like a really good idea at the time. I rode it for a few days then got the Blade back out. I sold it as soon as log book came back. A hateful bike.

I always thought the RS would be an ideal distance-commuter (it's supposedly what it's designed for - long distance cross-crounty riding). But I had one (R1150RS-SE) for a loan bike once and hated it after 1 day of my 50 mile distance commute.

The rubber-mounted bars completely robbed you of all feel from the front (and moved independently of the steering...)
The fairing was utterly shit and seemed to be deliberately designed to funnel wind and rain at your hands,
The riding position was multi-adjustable into several different configurations, none of which were anything like comfortable,
The seat was a flat plank.

I was overjoyed to give it back.

Mind you - I'll give it this: it was bloody stable as a bike in all situations (wooly steering notwithstanding), not least when encountering an unfortunate wandering roe deer in the middle of nowhere late at night!

That would be a flighty beast on the road.

I lied.

It's not a Panigale V4, it's a DD16RR (2010 vintage) from a Desmosedici!!!

The blurb (from 2010) says it doesn't have to conform to GP rules, so they can make it lighter.

Impressive considering it's got lights and other road accoutrements.
