I think the extremists driving both sides are as bad as each other and they have a largely symbiotic relationship.

Your sig quote needs changingTaipan wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 1:11 pmWhite supremacists have little or no effect on my life but woke madness does and increasingly so. Even if it is adopted by white power types, it doesn't mean every time it's used it means that. Woke madness!
The OK hand sign has been added to a list of hate symbols.
The finger-and-thumb gesture - which is also a popular emoji - is being used by some as a "sincere expression of white supremacy", according to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).
But the US anti-hate group says the "overwhelming usage" of the hand gesture today is still to show approval or that someone is OK.
Therefore "particular care must be taken not to jump to conclusions about the intent behind someone who has used the gesture".

Pissed up Brit tourists
Was in supermarket earlier for their scrummy bread. Bloke at till had huge trolley so the manageress opened the next till. I walked over but the pissed lass behind me with a trolley full of booze and she tried to get in first.
I put me in the way and said 'solo tengo esto'. She got really gobby and shoved her trolley past me.
The girl on the till recognised me and reached over for my bread
That got gobby lass even more shouty, at me and the server, thinking I didn't understand
When I'd paid, the manageress just pulled the key out of the till, smiled and walked off.
Gobby cow looked round for support. Lots of sniggering.
I winked and said Have a nice day

Awful, isn't it.
A couple of weeks ago they would probably have been chanting "Two world Wars and one World Cup!"

Lawnmower dying on me.... ancient electric one that had been left behind by the previous curate. Ah well, I've ordered a new Hyundai 1600W 38CM wide blade with roller so I can do the Wimbledon lawn cut now.... not likely!

Boiler has packed up, so I ring the boiler breakdown people who accept the claim and I pay the £50 excess and they say the repair agent will contact me to arrange a time. Repair company rings me and say is tomorrow between 10-2 okay? In the middle of summer and they are too busy to send someone out today!

I don’t mow my minuscule lawn anymore and have allowed it to grow wild and I must say I love how it looksthe_priest wrote: ↑Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:33 am Lawnmower dying on me.... ancient electric one that had been left behind by the previous curate. I went one step further a seeded ours with a wildflower mix. It's not an untidy unkempt lawn, it's a butterfly habitat!JamJar wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 11:03 amI don’t mow my minuscule lawn anymore and have allowed it to grow wild and I must say I love how it looksthe_priest wrote: ↑Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:33 am Lawnmower dying on me.... ancient electric one that had been left behind by the previous curate. I did that with my rather larger garden. The "lawn" reduced to about half its former size as the brambles, buddleia and (for some reason) plum trees took over. I kept one of the plum trees when I got all the rest chopped down and dug up and reseeded the lawn. It looks almost presentable now.

Back lawn is left to be "wild" at the back edges and we cut the grass long. We have a lot of flowers and bee friendly plants. Looks a rather wild and natural, which is nice! Glad to hear others have a similar take on gardening, it is not being lazy, just making the garden work as it should for the bugs.

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
My daughter was telling me yesterday evening that a local lad, aged 16, had been knocked off his electric scooter in a hit and run and killed. Her friend was a very good friend of his from primary school. 20 year old has been arrested for it, as well as being over the limit.
Tragic enough, but the police are also investigating the theft of his scooter from the scene. How much of an indication of how low some people can be, is that? Not only does somebody leave a kid dying in the road like a wild animal, but that somebody can nick the dead kid's scooter as it lay in the street. I hope it had been left there by the emergency services and not taken when he lay dying, as that would be beyond comprehension.

Trying to upload a photo online for a passport
Went to the valley - got photos from a passport photo photo booth. Cos I'll hopefully need them for the residency card anyway
Got home - took a photo of the passport photo. Emailed it to myself
Uploaded it
Not accepted
Did it again having taken a photo of the photo, again
Not accepted
Took a photo of myself and cropped it
Not accepted
FFS - so now I have to go to a friend's place to get her to take a photo of me (with a white background) and then try again!!!

That is shocking Did they find who took the scooter It's good that they found the person who killed the lad, not that it makes a huge difference to the family I guessgremlin wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 11:28 am My daughter was telling me yesterday evening that a local lad, aged 16, had been knocked off his electric scooter in a hit and run and killed. FiL has just equity released for the second time and is now looking at investing in Bitcoin/ already has, apparently the Broker needs MiLs passport to set up a Bitcoin wallet. This has SCAM written all over it and even if it isn’t he hasn’t got the cash or expertise to squander/gamble his money on the vagaries of crypto currency.

That sounds odd as well as stupid, why does he need his wife's passport to buy bitcoin. Unless there's a trail showing it's her money and they are doing it without her knowledge.MingtheMerciless wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 5:14 pm FiL has just equity released for the second time and is now looking at investing in Bitcoin/ already has, apparently the Broker needs MiLs passport to set up a Bitcoin wallet.
