He explained his system and it goes like this.
A pint normally costs €6.65
Staff discount means they cost a much more reasonable €4
(Also bear in mind that they always put a huge head on the beer, so no-one ever gets the full measure.)
UNLESS so it turns out, we have food too. If we have food we get 15% off everything.
In summary
4 pints cost €16
4 pints and a €5 item from the menu costs €26.86
I do love stuff like that. ;)

There's a lovely local boulangerie - who have a 'meal deal' - one savoury, one pastry, one drink. I think it's 6€, something like that, it's a in a big orangey star-shaped sign over the counter.
I nearly always have the same thing when I go there: goat's cheese quiche; croissante aux amandes; water. I'm boring like that but they are bloody nice.
Awesome.

Every single fecking time they say to me "Oh you want the meal deal".
Every fecking time I wince because the total price for those items priced individually is about 5.80€ and I know what's coming next.
Yes, my missus will explain to them in detail why I'm not having the meal deal.
And the lady behind the counter just stares at us blankly.

Went shopping with the missus yesterday. Few bottles of wine in the trolley, as per usual. The checkout lady joked about not asking for ID as we both looked over 25. My missus commented that she was under the impression that the legal age to buy alcohol was 18. Nope, the cashier informed us, the law was changed a few years ago to 25 and pointed at the 'Challenge 25' sticker on the till. I informed her that this was a campaign to encourage people between 18 - 25 to carry id as they would be challenged. Nope, I was wrong and she had been told as much b y management.

It was at this point that I realised that any further attempt to point out the error of her thinking in this area was futile.

'Good job we're both over 25 then, eh?' I said and made my exit....

FFS. Seriously?

Or maybe management realised that particular check out operator was a bit dim and told her the law changed 'cause that was the only way they could make it sink in.

Well, yes I know that's the point. It triggers me but I let it pass, although I hate lazy pricing or dimwits who can't add up 3 things in their heads ffs. But yeah 20c for a quiet life. It also triggers the missus but she can't let it go.

It's educational. :)

£27 to declare my bike SORN! That's £27 for the Government to allow me to not ride my bike.

I've only used the thing twice in the last year and a half and only now decided SORN would be a good idea, but I've got a feeling I'm gonna have to go back to the office at some point soonish, so I'll be taxing it again anyway. (Yes. I understand I am a fool).

But, 27 fucking pounds to allow my bike to not be used. :angry-cussingblack:

There’s no charge for SORN. Are you sure you were on the official.gov site?

30 secs googling and I was on declaresorn.co.uk which asks for all the relevant info (V5C ref number and ref no), putting nonsense into the fields was accepted and took me to the £27.50 payment page…. @McNab I'm afraid you’ve been had- and to top it all your bike’s still not officially SORNED

Not the first user on here to be caught by such scams IIRC. The site does look very very similar to the real deal.

Especially if they're one of the bottom feeders that add a recurring monthly charge in the small print

Well, this is pissing me off even more.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Anyone know if I can get my cash back or cancel the ongoing charge mentioned?

Weapons grade stinging nettles still giving me tingling knuckles and legs 3hrs after riding through them.
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."

As Weeksy says, it's free. Did you go through one of the scam sites that charges a 'fee' to submit the info?
Even bland can be a type of character
