Re: Mark Cavendish signs for Deceuninck-QuickStep for 2021 season
Tour of Belgium this week, Cavendish was in what he called the A team with DQS, his main lead out men being Lampaerts and Morkov. Myself and Crust have seen Morkov in the 6 days London and he's got pace for sure, thought of as the best lead out man around.
3.5km DQS screwed up a couple of corners and were 15th or lower, but came back with 400m to go and Cav launched for the line and won! Wow. The big scalps were Tim Merlier and Caleb Ewan who are in the top 3 sprinters on the planet on current form. But he beat them fair and square. Massive for him, massive!

On current form and with Bennett out you'd have to think Cav will be going to the Tour...
He's got a great racing brain and with his current speed I reckon he could add to his 30 stage wins. Not sure he's going to get another four to match Merckx though.

Cavendish officially the lead sprinter for DQS at Le Tour as Bennet still injured.
Could the Manx missile dream of winning another stage on the big race?

I reckon he's got a chance of bagging another stage.
This is the first TdF I've actually looked forward to in years!
The Ventoux stage is going to be something else, I'm going to try and get the day off work so I can watch it in full rather than just highlights.

As you'll have gathered, i love watching all the cycle racing, from roads to EWS, to DH and XC, even CX racing i enjoy. But yeah the TDF has something a little special about it this year. I'll knock up a thread actually.rusty wrote: ↑Tue Jun 22, 2021 7:38 am I reckon he's got a chance of bagging another stage.

It's a fight between him and Fabio Jakobsen who's young and fast too. The team boss currently says Fabio is going.
But you never know.
The stars aligned for Cav this year, I think he'd find it a ot tougher next year, especially with Sam Bennet being fit for example.
Not impossible for him though.

Mark Cavendish: British cyclist suffers two broken ribs and a collapsed lung in crash
Mark Cavendish suffered two broken ribs and a collapsed lung in a crash at the Six Days of Ghent on Sunday.
The British cyclist was competing in the Madison when Olympic and world champion Lasse Norman Hansen crashed in front of him.
The 36-year-old then rode into the Dane's bike, sending him crashing to the floor.
After initial treatment, Cavendish was able to walk but was then taken to hospital on a stretcher.
In a statement, Cavendish's team Deceuninck - Quick-Step said: "Examinations showed that Mark has suffered two broken ribs on this left side and has a small pneumothorax [collapsed lung], both of which have been treated with medication. He has been kept in the hospital for observation.
"It is expected that Mark will be discharged either later today or tomorrow morning, and will then undergo a period of recuperation."
On Sunday, Cavendish's wife, Peta, said he was spending the night in intensive care.

Re: Mark Cavendish signs for Deceuninck-QuickStep for 2021 season
Bit of a disappointing start to the Tour of Oman yesterday for Cavendish. I think the QS riders simply got things completely wrong and even the mighty Morkov didn't seem to be in the right place and Cav was completely boxed in with 200m to go.
It's the first BIG race of the season for the sprinters though with all the big boys playing in this one.

Obviously it's 2022 now but Cav has just won the British road racing championship. Fantastic riding and played it cool when attack after attack could have done for him.
Epic.

Re: Mark Cavendish signs for Deceuninck-QuickStep for 2021 season
Wouldn't it be great that if they said 'look we have to take Jacobsen but if you have an offer of a tdf ride we' ll let you leave' and then he nicks a couple of stages and gets the record. Tough early week though with coastal crosswinds and cobbles, I think puncheurs, WVA and Alaphillipe if he gets the ride will take early stage wins.

I wonder if he/anyone has even suggested it... Sadly i don't think it'd work as leadouts take months and years to perfect... So he'd be getting towed in by blokes he barely knows... But there's a few teams out there who would honestly have more chance giving it a try than not.Ditchfinder wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 10:22 pm Wouldn't it be great that if they said 'look we have to take Jacobsen but if you have an offer of a tdf ride we' ll let you leave'

Re: Mark Cavendish signs for Deceuninck-QuickStep for 2021 season
Mark Cavendish will not ride the Tour de France, despite equalling the all-time record for stage wins last year.
Cavendish, 37, had been hopeful of selection after winning the British road race title on Sunday, as well as several other races this season.
But it was always in doubt as his Quick Step-Alpha Vinyl team have long since planned for Dutch sprinter Fabio Jakobsen to compete instead.
The Tour begins in Copenhagen, Denmark on Friday.
