Finally watched Blade Runner 2049 last week, mostly cause it popped up on Amazon for free.
If you don't like the first one you probably won't like this either. I liked it though, I could probably watch it just for the cinematography and soundtrack.

Seen it, he starts off as a right cantankerous old knacker in that one.
Brilliant film.
He's directed quite a few slightly subversive movies in his time as well, Flags Of Our Fathers springs to mind.
He's a director that I look out for.

Re: Box Sets, Mini series, films, etc.
Really? I've never seen such a roll out of cliched sayings, grunts and looks! It was one of those films where I kept thinking, turn off now, but i watched thinking he's Clint Eastwood, it must go somewhere, but it didn't (for me). I ended up annoyed at myself for watching it to the end and feeling embarrassed for him for making it! I guess those vigilante/hero ex vet films just ain't my thing!demographic wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 6:15 amTaipan wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 8:51 pmTry Gran Torino!demographic wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 8:48 pm Just watched The Mule with Clint Eastwood the other day.

Re: Box Sets, Mini series, films, etc.
Papillon, the new one.
First thing first, I love the original film with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hofman. Its a long film but fills the time well and when I first heard there was a new version I scoffed at the idea.
What the hell could they do to improve one of my all time favourite films?
Well, the answer is they didnt improve on it but for me anyway it was still a good film.
Basically like a well known story being told by a different person, the story is the same but they put the emphasis on slightly different areas.
I liked it, but not as much as the original.

Blinded by the light.
Sort of a rock Mamma Mia.
I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Especially if you are a Springsteen fan.
Lightweight and definitely a feel good movie but okay to pass a couple of hours with.Sort of a rock Mamma Mia.

Tales from the Loop, https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8741290/
Only 2 episodes in, but that's some weird depressing stuff right there.

Just watched The American.
Slow burner, with some lovely eye candy. Didn't end as I expected.

8 episodes, only one which was dire IMHO (gay / parallel worlds episode) overall a rather good mini series, for some reason the last episode tugged on the old heart strings

Re: Box Sets, Mini series, films, etc.
The Expanse.
At first I wasn't so sure but they seemed to put the effort in to get the gravity situation as good as it could be done.
Upto series five and as far as I'm concerned its just getting better.
Two standout characters are Amos and Avassarala.
Amos started out as a meathead enforcer and doesn't say much but still waters run deep with that one and Avasarala has been good all the way through.
Oh and its got spaceships in it, if thats not your thing I'm sure theres some Only Fools and Horses being repeated somewhere or other.

Drummer is one of my favourites too. I'm fact most of the bad asses are women.
I could watch it just for the weird mid-african/carribean/Asian accent combos.

Yup, Drummer is bloody good.
I wasn't too keen on her at first but she's really grown on me.
We've just finished series five last night and it's just got a lot better as the cast grew into their roles.
Yeah, I can pick holes in the filming but most of thats because they don't have unlimited budget so air fed router masks get turned into space helmets and travelling times are greatly reduced to keep the plot moving but its still well done in my opinion.
