I could just bolt on a single seat and a fairing and it would look aces, thing is I don't want to put clip-ons on it and ruin the comfort.

Pictures below, I need to do something with that back end but I don't know what yet, I don't want to cut the frame, so probably remove that big rear light, buy a new black plastic mudguard and cut it down, then make a tail tidy.
Other ideas are a black headlight and black rims.
On order and arriving in 5-10 days (hopefully)...

Rear shocks and fork internals at Nitron or Ohlins. Probably the Nitrons, they look nicer.
This is the exhaust that's coming, it's a fruity rasp (play it loud)...
What are the forks now? Are they a cartridge fork? If not you could drill out the damper rods and fit pd valves and spring it to suit your weight, which is normally good enough for most street riding?
Its looking like being a great project.

I've got Road riders on my 500, they're alright actually, most people don't fit them because they look too modern for a classic styled bike.
The OEM tyres on the 650 aren't Pirelli Sports Demons are they?
Standard fit on the Guzzi and they behave exactly as you describe.

Are the standard forks cartridge type or damping rod? If they're damping rod, then YSS do very reasonably priced cartridge emulators that will significantly improve the forks. I did that to my RD350LC (along with stiffer YSS springs) and it made a substantial improvement (not really difficult on LC forks, I grant you...)

All you need is Hagon shocks and 9.0 SV650 springs, 15w oil at standard level and preload adjusters.

I had my BMW ecu reflashed by Mototuning in Dublin. He told me the Motronic fi would always readjust itself to the new baseline, if I swapped exhausts etc. When I put the standard exhaust on to sell it, it must have been a good hundred miles before it felt lovely and smooth again.
What fueling gadget did you get? Some of them get overridden by the ECU as it re-calibrates back to the OEM baseline.

I had a Boosterplug on a couple of bikes and they work well for curing the part throttle leanness. But bear in mind, depending on your ECU/Fi system, some will recognise the adjustment and calibrate back again, negating the unit.
