I would say five miles meets the 'local' definition. Especially as it isn't a specifed distance. It doesn't say you can't drive either. I would class not local as being 50 miles or more.

We take our dog to the beach regularly (about 6 miles away) and we'll continue to do so. Thankfully I think the coppers round here seem to have more sense.

My local bar is 200 yards away, I have 5 restaurants (all closed ) within 400 yards, but my local grocery store is almost 2 miles.

There is no definition of 'local" in the guidelines so I suspect plod are on thin ice, apparently they also told the women that their coffees were classed as a picnic, FFS!

Which is why I'd be having my day in court. Read the legal definition and there's no mention of distance.The guidelines say:
"exercise with your household (or support bubble) or one other person, this should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area."

As you say: define local.

To say this is heavy-handed is an understatement. Given how people are being forced to live, applying a bit of common sense, when it's clear there is no risk to anybody else, should be the default position.

I'd wager taking exercise in the form of a 60 min stroll from your house is safer than driving to Starbucks for a hot drink and then driving to meet your mate for a walk 5 miles away.

Notwithstanding our differing and very uneducated views on what's more dangerous, as far as I can see it, they've done nothing illegal. Be interesting to see how this one pans out. Like I said previously, it hasn't got any legs, though Derbyshire plod may well think it's a win if the news story stops people doing what they consider a breach of the law.

I'd offer to pay their legal fees, but the Gucci and Cartier bling they're flexing in the photo makes me think they can sort out their own legal team.
