Mind you, she must be the only person that ever had a second Vauxhall Frontera*.

*Actually pretty good in a 'keep it simple' sort of way.
About 1996, ahead of the SUV boom, a mate bought one for his wife.

Lots of jibes from colleagues, "Ho ho ho, be going off-road, will she?"

His reply: "Have you not heard about my wife's driving?"

She knocked him off his K-RS
She knocked down 30 ft of a neighbour's garden wall
She hit one of their cars with the other one
LOL. :D

The first one was rather Series 2 Land Rover-like ie a tad agricultural, leaf spring rear suspension etc, the second was slightly more refined in some ways. They were about as aerodynamic as a Town Hall. Someday she'd get home after a motorway trip, at an average of about 90mph :D and I'd wonder what mpg she was getting...

We did use it on hiking expeditions a lot so it wasn't just work/tarmac stuff and it was spot on.

I guess they were a bit like the mighty Duster in practicality and a bit bigger than stuff like the early Rav 4s. Definitely less agricultural than the Lada Niva we hired in Turkey though.

I rather liked 'em.
The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.

I'm combining several midlife crisis, a complete and total mental breakdown and a full on spaz-out (that's a medical term) all in one go :D

My Tesla(S) (we have three) are still brilliant but unfortunately we can't charge them at home during the day, it immediately just says it's too hot to charge and even during the night it will only charge at a reduced rate, so it takes three full nights to fully charge my car in 40c+ ambient temps.

If we take it to the superchargers in the malls then it's done in <2hrs, it takes half an hour for the car to cool down then it's done in about 1hr 30.

Other than that (and the absolutely ridiculous black glass roof that gets so hot you can't even touch it lightly without burning your fingers) it's ok.

So you have 3 cars which each take 3 nights to fully charge at home, as long as it’s cool enough, and your option away from home is 1.5hrs in a mall, if it’s cool enough. How much does that charge cost?

I’d struggle to maintain my enthusiasm.

A full charge at the super charger is about £1.50 and lasts about ten days with the way we use them.

If it's run right down I can put mine (we all have one) on charge at night and get about 30%, which will do me for a few days but like I said if I put it on charge every night for three nights then it's fully charged and gives me about ten days, no idea what that costs, even with three at the house we haven't noticed the electricity bill go up.
Everyone else does the same, just comes home and plugs it in, we've all got chargers that just plug into a garden 13A socket, so for three nights out of a week the cars will be plugged in, then not need to be charged again for another week.

It's no more hassle than plugging your iPhone in before you go to bed every night.
It's about as convenient as it could be, and way less hassle than calling at a petrol station once a week.

If he told me it was day time I'd look out of the window to check.
Staggeringly unprofessional and my old mum knows more about cars, plus she's less likely to get someone killed. A bloke was very severely injured when he was driving beyond his abilities in one of his videos.

And his Porsche Cayman project is best left unmentioned.

Your 13a plug will only give you 3kw/hr so 30% ~30kw ~ in 10 hours is about right. (Assuming 240v)

Wall chargers are on a 30a circuit so can charge at 7kw which is still mega slow compared to the Tesla charger that can pump it at 250kw or whatever it is.

I had a dedicated charger installed as got bored waiting for the granny charger to do its job, despite me being a very low miles driver.
I only charge once every 10 to 14 days

Used ones look good value and I image the running costs are low.
I modelled out the financials of Prius Plus vs newer BZ4X.

While the BZ4X is cheaper to run, due to charging vs petrol, In the scenario I went for, it would have taken c.130,000 miles to make up the difference in capex.

Admittedly for a c.3 or 4 year newer BZ4X than the Prius Plus. So quite some value would (probably!) be retained in the newer car.

But it was enough to put me off that change.
