Incoming, ebike day.... Sorta not for me.

It appears Mrs Weeksy has done a deal on this from a mate. It was bought in 25 but barely used, so she wanted one for when we move to the new house.

I've ridden it, but i've also ridden Rails so know them well enough. It's exactly what they're supposed to be and has a nice Bosch motor.

You’ll have to force yourself to ride it just to make sure it’s ok for her, we’ll understand it’s just for that reason 😳🤣

Bike has 269km on it... Which is pretty decent... weirdly they'd ridden 17km of them with the battery off :D

Basically yes. Obviously if i want to ride it then it's there for me to ride... but at the moment i'll be actively avoiding it. Whilst i get the logic of them, i'm OK with mine.

You have owned ebikes already though... What is there to "get" now?

Well i've owned one. I don't really understand your question. I see Ebikes as tools in the same way i see MTBs as tools. But i see ebikes as the tools for the lazy in truth. Not only the lazy though but the people who don't want cycling to be as amazing as i see it... I ride on my own power, in silence, getting the forest around me, the smells, the tastes, the breeze, you experience the highs and the lows, both physically and also emotionally.
When does anyone really finish at ride on an eeb with "fuck i didn't think i was going to make that" or "that was epically hard and i'm really impressed i made it". You just don't get the level of self acomplishment with an ebike.
I hate to think of it as 'purist' but in a way, in my own way, that's kinda what it is.

Ebikes change the whole dynamics of riding. It's like Dodgys little Monkey bike vs a trackday. It's the same sport, but totally different.

There'll be days i want a trackday of course, but i'm not there.

I don't necessarily expect other people to 'get' what i'm saying either.. I don't really give a fuck if they don't. I get mocked by ebikers on trails, i get mocked by mates when riding, but i don't care. I enjoy MTB in my own way.

I LOVED the ride the other day on the Levo SL. But it doesn't mean i'm going out buying one.

One perfect use example is what I had planned for Saturday, showing you around a new area and exploring which would have been purely up down up down up down where the focus is purely on the down bit, on a manual it would be tough to do the climb more than a few times but on an eeb you can save your energy for the downs.

I appreciate this isn't really what you normally do.

Absolutely agree yes. Along with riding Staunton to work out where trails go. The fatigue factor at some places does a lot to what's viable.
Sadly it wasn't here till 11am on Sat otherwise I would have braved the heat if on an eeb

When I ride my ebike it’s in turbo and I ride it as hard as I can and I always end the ride knackered and on a high. Said before my average HR over 45mins on ebike is same as 45mins on normal bike except the 45mins on ebike have all been Adrenalin filled with the extra speed, you can work hard on an ebike but you have to want too and I guess you have to want the speed or be in a place that allows the speed for so long

You owned one, and you used to rave about it... That's my point... Then you sold it, and since then, you've become quite sanctimonious about how eMTBing isn't "proper" MTBing on the whole, and the only reason I can see for that, is that it suits the narrative as you don't currently own one...

Laws of the internet I guess... Nail your colours to the wall, be evangelical about your choices to everyone else and if they question your choices, tell them "it's ok, you wouldn't get it man" or words to that effect...

Riding bikes is fun... Being able to ride further in a given amount of time for a given amount of effort, makes it more fun for me mostly... For sure, the "all the power all of the time" brigade probably aren't appreciating MTB for what it is, but as I've said countless times before, those of us predisposed to put effort in regardless, eMTB isn't cheating it's simply allowing you to do more for the time or effort that you can spare...

Ridden in isolation, the Levo SL would be a lot of fun I guess, certainly closer to the feel of a regular MTB than a 25kg full fat one... But there are much better SL/mid power eBikes than the Levo SL on the market now for sure...

Anyway... My lazy eBiker stats from the Batch Burner a few weeks ago... 60km with about 1800m of elevation and some of the climbs were killer even on an eBike (especially as I was managing my battery effectively, some people ran out of battery apparently!)... 3hrs at 210W average!!! I could barely walk the next morning...

I've reprimanded myself and given myself a talking to.

Although I don't really often listen to my own sanity.
