Dumped a shit-ton of screws from the carbs in the tumbler this afternoon.

Also dug out my tin of weird drill bits... it has tapered bits for wood screws....

and also these three bits which have a spring-loaded doodad that centers the bit when drilling pilot holes for door hinge screws...

The smaller one is the perfect size & depth for drilling into that buggered air screw on the #1 carb, & I deployed the screw extractors for use after I put a hole right in the middle of the air screw.

All set to drill out that buggered air screw now. Got the drill bit shown in the previous post & three different types* of extractor... NONE of which are those fucking E-Z Out mongfoolery. :)

*including a German #1 Rennsteig extractor.

Started with the self-centering hinge drill doodad to get the hole started, went up to a slightly larger bit & went to town (notice the brass swarf), Then put the Rennsteig in the hole, seated it with a couple of light hammer taps & then just unscrewed the jet. 8-) 8-)

The Amazon reviews of the German doodad had several people saying "Bought this to successfully remove a stuck jet in a Mikuni".. which I will be adding too.

FINALLY got the carbs separated. Issue was the choke rod which most online posts state "remove the screws & slide the rod out"... :eh:

Problem:
It doesn't have any fucking screws :angry-cussingblack:

Solution:
Found a post on KZRider from over a decade ago that mentioned Ping!FuckIts! & even listed the part # (92033-1066) Looked up the parts diagram & found the buggers. :thumbup:

...and back out again after an hour. Even managed to get the balls (# 92045)& springs (#22081-A) out of the two carbs that position the choke rod. Balls came out in the tank, springs removed after with a sharp pointy thing (scribe, for you technical types).

I got it from Amazon, just punch "Rennsteig extractor" in the search bar. For carbs you want the #1 size. It's a Knipex company. Another rear m/c showed up. Original (right) has a bolt sheared off in it, may attempt to remove broken bolt at some point...

Fired up the soda blaster in the driveway & knocked the paint off the carbs. :thumbup:

JHC!!! It looked like a scene from Scarface be the time I was done. Barely used any soda, but the mess was epic :shock:

Got done with that & put everything away, hosed off the driveway etc.. & just when I finished the other set of carbs showed up from Texas. :roll: I thought I was getting a partially stripped set, but they're complete :banana-dance:

So the Saturday plan is original carb bodies back in the ultrasonic & pull a couple of parts off the spare set.


and.. I just realized I forgot to soda blast the fucking float bowls. FFS :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

Not really an issue because other stuff will getting the soda treatment soon enough.
