Things you take for granted. Had the mighty Duster just over 8 years and been good as gold.
But having temporary heatwave (27c) and aircon packed in.
That was an uncomfortable journey.
We use the aircon everyday and happy it's lasted this long.
Gonna be up early to get it fixed.
I don't expect any sympathy from you 'orrible lot

If it's never been re-gassed in eight years then it might well be that it will just be needing new gas. Quick and cheap fix if it is, just need to find a local 'Kwik Fit' equivalent.

Using it everyday is good for it.
If you never use the aircon the seals dry out and all the gas escapes.

By idiots, leave the air con on all the time, even if you're calling for heat, 1 it dries the air quicker and 2 as has been said it keeps the seals in better nick.Yorick wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 4:13 pm I hear stories about cars needing regas in Uk where it's hardly used.
My 14 year old civic runs its air con permanently on, has had one re-gas and it works like a champ.

I've never switched ours off, as far as I can remember, on any car that we've had with it. Apart from the ones when we've been driving with the roof down/off and even with those it was a definite +ve in winter for clearing condensation rapidly.KungFooBob wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 4:18 pm Using it everyday is good for it.

Why would you turn it off?

Our old Leon (about 2006) would noticeably sap power.Count Steer wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 5:01 pmI've never switched ours off, as far as I can remember, on any car that we've had with it. First time Filly pressed the switch, in a car park, it was like the handbrake was half on!

Driver aids on new cars. b
Lane departure warnings, collision avoidance shit, road departure warnings and bloody speed limit bleeps.
Far from being an aid, they are an annoying and dangerous distraction. Some cannot even be turned off!

Our faithful Toyota is 11 years old and will need to be changed sooner rather than later. I'm really not looking forward to all that schitt you mention, but it looks like it's unavoidable.Cousin Jack wrote: Tue Feb 17, 2026 2:46 pm Driver aids on new cars. b![]()

Yesterday mine tried to drive me into a stone wall, and into a cycle lane.
Methinks the UK road network is not suitable for driverless vehicles. Certainly not the Cornish part of the road network.

To be fair, the Cornish part of the road network is not suitable for most vehicles, driverless or not.Cousin Jack wrote: Tue Feb 17, 2026 3:37 pm Yesterday mine tried to drive me into a stone wall, and into a cycle lane.

Millions of years ago, my sis asked my SDad how to tell if you had reversed far enough when parking?
He replied ( a bit tongue in cheek I think!!) - just reverse very very slowly and keep going till you hear the tow bar touch!!!

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
Everytime I have to drive in snow the thought crosses my mind -
How the Fck have Humans survived so long?
Honestly, pedestrians, drivers, people waiting at (or rather IN) bus stops.
Peds and drivers are the worst, usually!
But FFS, seriously, how has the human race survived so long?
(And no, I'm not infallible and have wondered more than a few times HTF I survived!! And yes, I realise that negates my question a bit! But honestly it's incredible, I guess I just see All The Stupid in one area whilst driving a bus around resort!! )
