To some extent you’re sponsoring a chatroom for half a dozen old politics bores.
You must wonder why you’re doing that.
Well, as i say, there's no financial outlay my side and the time to 'run' the place 99% of the time is minimal.
The forum/forums have been very much a part of my life for over 25 years, i met lots of mates here/there, met my wife through TRC and have obviously got a child because of it...
To be fair, I drop in and out, sometimes I'm the only one posting pics in the "pic of your bike ...." thread, other times (when I'm not riding) I'll not post in there at all.
Though I do always really enjoy the Insignificant Things threads ?!
Though you are right, times have changed. Years ago, when I moved to a new area, I'd look for a local forum, nowadays I look for Facebook groups. They are not NEARLY as good, especially for question answers and such resources. However, it's what the kids did for a few years, so people don't find forums so much IMO. Now that the youngsters coming through don't have FB (because their parents do, so it's not cool) maybe we'll see a resurgence in forums over the next few years ?

That's a massive reason in itself....
but it's not what it used to be
I suspect there are inevitable demographic reasons it’s not what it used to be. My once-busy Thursday bike guys’ pub curry night is now three saddos!
May not be routinely losing money, but are you at risk of being held responsible for things people say on here? Online safety bollocks and all that.

We can but hope - social media platforms are utterly shite for gaining or keeping actual knowledge in a form that can be found and disseminated easily.

My kids (20s) became internet-aware when forums were massive, and subsequently have dropped FB a long time ago now (hanging on to FB Messenger to stay in touch with their olds) because that's so uncool, and are now even dropping Instagram etc because Social Media is increasingly seen as an outlet for total nonsense
You're under no obligation to continue running it, from your first post you're clearly not enjoying it. If I felt like that I'd ask for a volunteer who cares enough about the place to own it and if you don't find one then shut it down.

They're jolly good at disseminating opinions though. It used to be you and your mates could avoid a 'Weapons Grade pub bore' by changing pubs and you and your colleagues all knew the 'swerve to the stairs' manoeuvre if you saw 'Johnny Onetopic - the trainee London Cabbie' getting in.
Now, thanks to the algorithm thing it's like the pub and the lift carry on without the need for either of the above.
'Going Up. 'Ere, you'll never guess who I gave a lift up to the 5th floor....'
Skubs always posting blue n orange pic's. I think the forums fine. It's a general forum for a variety of subjects. Some folk spend more time here and some there. Alternative opinions are good, when doing so respectfully. Folk should only ever get nasty when face to face, if they're daft enough.
I can't compare with other forums or Facebook, I don't do. It's all a good cross section of the United Counties of Great Britain.
I dip in and out, mostly because of real life and my see-saw love of riding my bike.
I'll be honest, it's not an overly positive forum in some places. I like reading about bikes and what people do on bikes, but most members think every new bike is shit, they're all the same, it was better in my day etc. But that's a tiresome theme in general life. I've been on plenty of forums over the years to see regular members come and go, and forums ultimately die out.

Just do what I do, post whatever drivel comes into your head, so long as it's inoffensive, if the voices in your head are telling you to do bad stuff (like buying a KTM), don't act on them and seek professional help

+ if anyone on here tries to persuade you to buy a KTM, hit the 'Report Post' button.
