The 'current' forum
I almost feel like i may as well give up and close 99% of the forum these days and just leave the politics section open and re-name the whole forum. I've honestly pretty much given up with this place.
But anyway.... i'll keep trying every now and again but people like Fromage and Skub who i used to rely upon for posting bike stuff, well they don't any more... Mofo used to do a bit of MotoGP and seems to have given up on that, Wull was our WSB guy and doesn't bother...
It's just a bit of a waste of time and effort really isn't it.
Luckily the time and resources needed to keep this place going is fairly minimal, otherwise i'd close the place down and you can all wander off to Facebook bollox.
It's all a bit shit really guys.

LOL not sure about pushbikes, there's only a couple of us and it's mostly me who posts that...v8-powered wrote: Thu Sep 04, 2025 9:50 am Shame - its moved away from motorbikes, all about pushbikes and politics.
People like @formula400 used to post both bikes and foodie stuff which was cool.

Be interested to see data showing quantity of posts in each sub-forum. Reckons some areas don't get touched for days....weeksy wrote: Thu Sep 04, 2025 9:52 amLOL not sure about pushbikes, there's only a couple of us and it's mostly me who posts that...v8-powered wrote: Thu Sep 04, 2025 9:50 am Shame - its moved away from motorbikes, all about pushbikes and politics.

Things change, people change, aside from the politics bored I reckon the cycling / health board gets the most posts, we're still mostly a community, some of us still even own motorcycles.

Re: The 'current' forum
Sorry you feel that way Weeksy. I do know what you mean though; the politics sections do seem to be the tail wagging the rest of the forum dog. I know I'm guilty of that as well, but the main reason I come here is motorbikes, pure and simple. Must try harder and post up more moto stuff.
But please don't close the forum down...

Re: The 'current' forum
FWIW @weeksy , the forum has been a boon this past summer - I've had some good help (flymo) and some laughs, so it's certainly been worth my subs to me (even the politics forum can be fun... in a way...

I've said all along, as long as the forum is covered in costs, it'll remain up.
At the moment that's not an issue.
Doesn't mean i'm enjoying the place currently though.

Do you browse by looking at specific forums, or what? I use the "New Posts" feature and it's handy - and I think you can filter out certain areas? I know you're supposed to keep an ear on things so you shouldn't be filtering stuff out - but .... isn't that what moderators are for.

Re: The 'current' forum
Sorry mate, I'll put some effort in post wise, I'm having to be productive at work these days so I only really get the chance to post in the evenings, I also thought I was boring people with my endless rides round East Anglia.

Re: The 'current' forum
I'm not slagging off the forum, or the way it's run, just to make that clear. i know Weeksy and the mods do a fair bit of work to keep it ticking over.
I'm also not sure how it all works with searches etc, but it just seems that some regular posters have left and there hasn't really been anyone to replace them?
People do get bored though, or just flounce, or their interests just change?
I log on most days, in the morning and evenings, in fact, it tends to be the first place i visit when I get the laptop out. It's the only forum I subscribe to or put any money into.
I'm not a huge poster or thread starter and I have a look at the new threads, pop into a couple and then disappear to other forums or sites.
There's not normally that much in the way of new thread traffic wise, or anything that catches my attention, so 5-20 mins, I'm off to pistonheads, where the sheer volume of traffic means that I can spend ages on there. But it's just down to numbers, there's a huge number of people over there, and hundreds of new threads everyday, it's a behemoth of a forum.
I just don't do the miles on my bike, well, I suppose technically I don't even own a 'real' bike these days so have limited amount that i can contribute in that sense, certainly don't do stuff like tours etc, most of my mates that I used to go touring with have given up biking altogether.
And I suppose that not being a huge forum is both an advantage and disadvantage? A few more people and posters would be nice though?

Re: The 'current' forum
I still post a fair bit of bike stuff, think this week I've talked leccy bikes, Marquez, waterproofs, multistradas, Kawasaki service lights, spark plug life, MT09 handling and specials with unfinished back ends! I would have chucked another entry in the last ride pic thread as well but didn't stop for a piccy
But yes, bike talk is thin on the ground for a bike forum
Still love this place though...ya cants

We've had a few/some new mmebers, but most turn up, ask a question and leave again.Nordboy wrote: Thu Sep 04, 2025 8:02 pm I'm not slagging off the forum, or the way it's run, just to make that clear. i know Weeksy and the mods do a fair bit of work to keep it ticking over.

I don't think that's my/your fault as such, just the world in which we live.
Some/many have left... whether that's my fault or yours is open to debate of course

Re: The 'current' forum
This is certainly a smaller forum than the likes of pistonheads so it’s going to be a quieter place because of that.weeksy wrote: Thu Sep 04, 2025 8:40 pm

What’s nice about this place is that, even if we all don’t know each other IRL, there’s a lot of historical respect between members which you don’t find elsewhere.

Re: The 'current' forum
To some extent you’re sponsoring a chatroom for half a dozen old politics bores.
You must wonder why you’re doing that.
