Count Steer wrote: Tue Jun 17, 2025 12:46 pm I'm intrigued though. Where is it? Is that a public area or is it in someone's garden? Just wondering what the story behind it is.
To be honest, it's in the garden where I'm working at the moment. I don't know this area at all, and figured my chances of stumbling across a genuine sports statue out in the wild were pretty slim. So I kinda cheated in order to move the game along as there'd been nearly a whole page of replies with no picture.
Still fits the brief.

Is your elderly gent a cricketing man? Nice idea for a garden statue. Shame in a way you aren't there longer, there's a few of us on here with some knowledge of that area.
He's much more a horse guy. We were talking last night and he showed me his racing colours. Orange and white, so he's KTM really 🤣. He's also written at least one book "Politics of the turf". I was really hoping that I'd be able to get a copy and have him sign it as I thought it would make a great present for my winter boss (who is also a horse guy). Sadly the only copy I can find is £85 on Amazon!!

There's a few other statues in the garden which relate to his time in Africa.

Closer to home, AbeBooks have a signed copy listed at £34 (+£5 p&p) from a seller in Farnham.

Awesome, I've bought it.

The irony being that the seller won't know that they are posting it to the house of the Author

Fly fishing by JR Hartley.

If you're not old enough to get that reference, how the hell are you on this forum?!

(I was looking at a s/h book in the USA this morning and the book was £30.......p&p was £29.40. ).

You should add that it can't be your own car... Or I'll just wheel the bike out the garage and park it next to my Volvo.
