Re: Yamaha MT09 SP
I had the basic, older version, and loved it. For some reason i had it in my head I didnt like the sound of triples, but i put a black widow system on mine and enjoyed the sound immensely! Sold mine as I couldnt ride it after a knee op, but always hoped to get another and even have a full black widow system in my loft-of-plenty awiting the arrival of one! I think there still a rack and top box and comfort seat up there as well.
Enjoy the bike. look forward to the ride reports!

Re: Yamaha MT09 SP
Many thanks!
Picked it up after lunch today, had five minutes of trying to switch it on (not just me!) as the manual said to switch the fob on but that's the exact opposite of what's needed, confusingly.
Only sixty miles or so back home but I enjoyed it just as I was when I had a (very brief) test on one last October. Good job really as half way there on the old bike I'd been having the same old 'why get rid of this?' thoughts...
Very happy with it - still far too fancy but, hey, I've treated myself.

Re: Yamaha MT09 SP
Got the SW Motech side bars & bags fitted, tried out the new Oxford tail pack. Turns out I can have Nav on the dash as well as some other features so even more reason not bother with a tank bag.
Pleased. Easily enough room for a couple of weeks away.

The keyless ignition/fuel cap on the SP is a bit of a faff (although maybe good for security ?) but I'd say go for it! I just got in touch with loads of Yamaha dealers and ended up not paying a great deal more than list price for the standard one all-in.

Top work, that man! I'm not really in the market for a new bike, but every time someone buys an MT-09 (or version thereof) I think 'I really fancy that'...

Trip up to Ormskirk to see my godfather for a cup of tea and a chat.
Starting to feel more like my bike than someone else's. Does mean I've started to forget to pay attention to differences so, for example, occasionally mess up withe the indicator switch gear.
240 miles and counting.

Re: Yamaha MT09 SP
4 hours out in the sunshine today down through Shropshire - Church Stretton, Ludlow etc. Lovely part of the country. Kidderminster by mistake and as a result Telford on the way back.
I've nothing to complain about yet apart from I'm still running it in. Front end grip and feedback is really lovely and I've found that the mirrors are actually quite good despite them confusing me when I had a go on one before I bought this one.
The keyless ignition seems much less of a faff than yesterday so It must just have been me. It would have been nice to get two fobs with it as standard, though.
424 and counting.

Re: Yamaha MT09 SP
New seat arrived this morning - certainly looks the part.
Not been for a ride on it yet but it feels a lot firmer, which I'm happy about. Quite possibly sits a bit taller, too, which I'm also happy about.
I've got the matching pillion seat on the way, too, when they're back in stock.

Pillion seat arrived today - try to contain your excitement!ChrisW wrote: Fri May 23, 2025 6:32 pm I've got the matching pillion seat on the way, too, when they're back in stock.

Have had to slow down putting on the miles due to a bit of a mix up concerning the first service, no great loss considering the lousy turn the weather's taken recently. That said I was speaking to my brother earlier today who's in Chennai - for his commute back from work by bike today it was 42 degrees and raining, so perhaps I shouldn't complain.

A comfy pillion seat
I thought pillions were supposed to pearch precariously, screaming, whilst alternately having their legs flung under the riders armpits or finding themselves launched over the riders head with nothing but a tiny strap sized only for children's hands between their legs to stop them.

That was exactly my experience the last time I agreed to go pillion, never againSupermofo wrote: Fri May 30, 2025 7:49 pm A comfy pillion seatI thought pillions were supposed to pearch precariously, screaming, whilst alternately having their legs flung under the riders armpits or finding themselves launched over the riders head with nothing but a tiny strap sized only for children's hands between their legs to stop them.

This seat won't get sat on, in all likelihood. I took a chance on the main comfort seat being firmer and happily it is.
The pillion seat is honestly just me being a bit precious, purely for looks.

That was my experiences on the back of my brothers KR1S when I was 15, either nearly off the back on the power or screaming in agony as my knackers was minced on the brakes. Loved it at the time, but fuck that now.ChrisW wrote: Fri May 30, 2025 8:05 pm
