Often the outrage is faux anyway. Even if a story is obvs completely false it still gets propagated knowing that some will fall for it. A vote is a vote even if the voter is 3 cards short of a full deck.Mr. Dazzle wrote: Wed Apr 02, 2025 12:04 pmit's funny how it's mostly the people who suffer the least prejudice who think that, isn't it?Saga Lout wrote: Wed Apr 02, 2025 12:02 pm but gradually morphed into not saying or doing anything to offend anybody*Almost like they're the ones most often causing offence and least often being on the receiving end.

Odd, really, because many of us OSWM here are likely to have experienced unwarranted anti-motorcyclist prejudice and discrimination.
I've certainly been told to leave an empty (!) pub because they "Don't serve motorcyclists" (I asked whether we - my GF and I - were upsetting the customers?). And other, similar, experiences. Which pale into insignificance, really.
It wasn't that long ago that signs were seen stating "No blacks, no Irish, no dogs". Or that homosexuality was illegal.
However, I worked for many years in a privatised ex-civil service company. At various points I had:

Female team leader
Female line manager
Female project manager
Female group manager
Female divisional director
Female CEO

If you had you would know what it's like to suffer from permanent ongoing prejudice. It's so blatant I've heard plenty of women complain about it because they weren't being judged on ability. The opposite happened in nursing, they were told to push more men up the ranks so I suppose there was some element of equality about it.Horse wrote: Wed Apr 02, 2025 2:46 pmI don't understand the point you're making, so that was wasted on me.Mussels wrote: Wed Apr 02, 2025 11:16 amYou've never worked alongside women in a traditionally male civil service job then.Horse wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 11:28 pm

Ah, ok, ta for explaining. I joined 20 years after privatisation. There's sort of parallel to that in primary schools. It seems males are far more likely to to become Heads.Mussels wrote: Wed Apr 02, 2025 3:10 pm The opposite happened in nursing, they were told to push more men up the ranks so I suppose there was some element of equality about it.

I can't submit my "sick note" to the authorities via email. I HAVE to physically post it to them
I've had to make a load of claims off my health insurance due to the accident I had in January. 300 euros to the doctor, 75 to the pharmacy, 100 for the ultrasound, 55 for the MRI and more in various pharmacy trips.
Today I got an email from the insurance company stating that one of the pieces of paperwork needs to be signed by me and the doctor and it wasn't so could I please send them a signed copy. Unfortunately, they haven't told me which of my numerous claims this email refers to

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
Lost my purse
Well, pretty sure I have.
Today is a day off and yesterday I packed up various stuffs to bring to a mates house where I'm cat sitting. Was a bit of a rush as I did a very short night shift then also a short afternoon shift and hadn't been organised to pack before
I am sure I had my purse at home, but couldn't find it when I got to the car to go to work. So I drover around the route I'd walked in case it was on the ground, but it wasn't; went home to see if it was there but couldn't see it; checked the last bags I put in the car, not there
So, instead of a really chilled day here cuddling cats, sewing, maybe going to the market, I have to go back home to recheck and if I don't find it, trips to the police and tourist offices in case someone handed it in; if still nothing I have to request replacements of -
Irish passport card (luckily I have the actual passport 'book' at home)
Carte de Sejour (residency card) - and reprint my mutuelle insurance thingy
Carte Vitale (health card)
Driving licence
Driver CQC card (CPC)
These are the main ones, I'm sure I'll remember other stuffs as time goes on (the card bits always seemed to be full, so that looks like a short list!!!)
I suppose I'm lucky that I 'only' had about 40€ in the purse, but still, that feels like a lot to me
I did freeze the two bank cards as soon as I got to the depot and didn't find the purse in a recheck of bags, although will have to unfreeze the Revolut one in a bit as will need to try and use contactless/applepay to get some fuel when I get down to Moutiers
Biggest bit of luck is that I leave my driver tacho card in my work jacket at all times, so I do still have that to hand for work tomorrow (and yesterday), and i have photos of all other ID type cards except the Carte Vitale. So this evening I'll need to print all of those in case I get 'controlled' whilst driving tomorrow
But, FFS

Realising that the bag I didn't bring in from the car yesterday is the one with my tshirts in it
So, now I'm primed with coffee at last, I will scare my friends' neighbours and head out to the car in my pjs and cardi, put the car in the parking spot and then I can unload not only my clothes, but the sewing machine and big bag of stuff I want to sew!! (The sewing will now be after I've driven home to try and find my purse

Meetings. Sometimes a necessary evil, of course, but when you're in one with someone who has nothing much to say, but repeats it over and over again. FFS, just cos its scheduled for an hour doesn't mean it has to take that long!

Diesel claim companies. I'm getting an increasing amount of these calls at the moment and it's getting on my wick.
I don't get it. What are people claiming for? I had a diesel car for 9 years, insurance was low, best mpg I've ever had and the road tax was £20 for a 2.0l turbo. What's not good about that?

Two gripes today:
The hose on the carpet cleaner has split but thankfully it is under warranty
I called Vax nearly three weeks ago, the need to send me a letter with instructions on how to return together with a postage label, fine whatever. It hadn’t arrived by last Friday, so I called them and they resent the “pack”. It still hasn’t arrived today, so another call, ‘we’ll send it recorded delivery’.
Apparently, they have to post the letter, postage label and instructions they have undoubtedly printed but cannot email me the documents for me to print myself…
I ordered a new battery hedge trimmer* to sort out the bushes (fnarr) yesterday and added a couple of other items (2 x cleaning wipes) to push the order over the free next day delivery threshold. Imagine my surprise to receive two DHL confirmation emails, followed later by a knock on the door with DHL presenting me with a box. I mentioned there should be two boxes, driver shrugs and says that’s all he’s got for me.
I checked the tracking, other consignment has been delayed and delivery will be attempted on the next working day…
Weirdly, I have received one pack of cleaning wipes, you’d have thought the seller would have packaged similar items together rather than add one pack to the box with the power tool in and put the other in a new box…
* 65cm Metabo 18V trimmer with no battery, but there is a redemption offer providing a charger and 2ah battery for free. I’ve already got 2 x 5ah and 1x 4ah batteries for Hikoki / Metabo tools

I have been advised by my counsel that I bought all my diesel cars solely and exclusively for the reduced NOX emissions they had compared to competitor's products.

I have a qualifying diesel but fail to see how it has affected me, I guess some people will claim it reduced the resale value.
What I will claim for is interest rates set by dealers, it seemed steep and I thought it was set by black horse.

What I didn't understand was the droves of people taking their cheating Volkswagens back to have them de-cheated. Didn't they realise they'd lose performance and fuel economy would suffer without cheat mode?Skub wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 4:45 pmFolk thought they were doing their bit for the environment, but actually the evil car makers had cooked the figures.
