However, I'm not entirely happy with Mr Dazzle's definition. It seems to me that to be woke you have to be aware of injustice, prejudice and social issues only as they affect certain groups of people. But what do I know? I'm just an old, straight, white man.

However, I'm not entirely happy with Mr Dazzle's definition. It seems to me that to be woke you have to be aware of injustice, prejudice and social issues only as they affect certain groups of people. But what do I know? I'm just an old, straight, white man.

And is that [part of] the point? As another OSWM, I probably don't, can't, understand what it's like to endure permanent ongoing prejudice.

Odd, really, because many of us OSWM here are likely to have experienced unwarranted anti-motorcyclist prejudice and discrimination.

I've certainly been told to leave an empty (!) pub because they "Don't serve motorcyclists" (I asked whether we - my GF and I - were upsetting the customers?). And other, similar, experiences. Which pale into insignificance, really.

It wasn't that long ago that signs were seen stating "No blacks, no Irish, no dogs". Or that homosexuality was illegal.

It started with good intentions to be "aware of injustice, prejudice and social issues" but gradually morphed into not saying or doing anything to offend anybody*. We're on the road to Hell, aren't we?


* Except the toxic elderly, and especially old, straight, white men. They're fair game. Say what you like about them, they caused all the world's problems.

it's funny how it's mostly the people who suffer the least prejudice who think that, isn't it? Almost like they're the ones most often causing offence and least often being on the receiving end.

But lets not also forget, this point started because Taipan was offended by a made up story about some hot cross buns Sounds like being easily offended to me.
