Use Google Maps instead then. Not only do Google own Waze the developers share the same office space. It's only a matter of time before Waze disappears.Saga Lout wrote: Wed Dec 11, 2024 11:50 am Waze have updated their voice directions. She used to say "Go straight on", now she says "Go straigh' on". See above. I've (possibly) solved the immediate problem. I suppose I could go back to using the car's satnav. It mostly works fine but it's about 5 years out of date so it sometimes thinks I'm driving across fields.Pirahna wrote: Wed Dec 11, 2024 5:07 pm Use Google Maps instead then. Specsavers. Went 7 years ago and got glasses for the first time. Got home and they were shit. Fine reading the card they give you to read but two foot or more (Laptop distance) was a blurry mess. Had to take them back and get tested again and another set of glasses. 2.5 years later, no change in the prescription. 2.5 years later (Last week) apparently my prescription has now changed after being tested. Today got my glasses and read a few things and they seem fine. Got home and cat see my laptop. I have better over the counter glasses.

Or you have a problem simple glasses can't fix.
It's how I discovered I have keratoconus for example.

I told my optician I wanted specs for screen work (you can ask for craft glasses too). They asked what distance I worked from the screen and worked on that basis. (Reading is usually closer than screen work and easier to move into focus).Felix wrote: Fri Dec 13, 2024 6:45 pm Specsavers. Went 7 years ago and got glasses for the first time. Specsavers are a bit variable though.

Now i think about it she did measure the distance from eye to where i would be reading a book/paper then again from eye to laptop distance.Count Steer wrote: Fri Dec 13, 2024 7:12 pmI told my optician I wanted specs for screen work (you can ask for craft glasses too). Anyway they are going back tomorrow and probably another eye test.

If you said 'computer' specifically, they didn't didn't get what you'd asked for.Felix wrote: Fri Dec 13, 2024 8:00 pmI did tell her i do more computer reading than on paper so yes i suppose.Horse wrote: Fri Dec 13, 2024 7:11 pmDid you specifically tell them you didn't want reading glasses, but for computer use?Felix wrote: Fri Dec 13, 2024 6:45 pm Got home and cat see my laptop. But ...
Did you query it when they gave you the reading test card? You already knew that reading and computer need different prescriptions.

I have bi focals for distance and reading and a seperate pair for computer use. Specsavers told me computer use was different to readers, as the screren is generally that bit further away. At a guess, they won't have one as a standard check. I've never been shown one. It's up to you to tell them what you need.Felix wrote: Fri Dec 13, 2024 9:15 pmThey gave me a card today to read and it was fine. They never gave me a loptop to try though. Go into Wilco or another cheapo shop. Try some on, stand at screen distance from the test card.

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
You do need to be really specific with Specsavers. Mind you, when they were doing the test to work out my reading distance I was told I wasn’t reading at the ‘correct’ distance - my arms aren’t long enough to hold a book up for any length of time at the ‘correct’ distanceFelix wrote: Fri Dec 13, 2024 6:45 pm Specsavers.
