Prefer the original wheels but wouldn't kick it out the garage

Shocked at how old that looks now. I think its the huge seat that dates it so much?
It's got the newer 996/8 wheels painted in a gold that doesn't match the frame. Looks wrong.

Forgot how small they are! Can believe the 130kg dry weight, it's tiny. Fucking mental though.
I struggle to believe how heavy bike's have got over the last couple of decades :wtf:
I'd rather bikes had less power with less weight just like that KR1S
Yup, 140 odd kg wet, 55bhp, 140mph, smells amazing, noise like a pissed off wasp, what's not to like! Except the 25mpg when thrashed

Everyone just takes 200kgs+ as normal now for a bike. :(

Even something like a W800 weighs 216kg, why? They're pretty minimal. Do they make the pistons out of lead?

Bikes these days have to meet certain standards, for that they need fuel injection, cats in the exhaust and ABS kit, it all adds weight.

That's KR1S wouldn't meet any of today's emissions standards as a new bike. Never mind adding ABS :)

I get that, but what's the weight penalty for adding ABS,Catalytic converter & swapping carbs for FI?
I also understand that the A2 licence category requires a power to weight ratio but I wish they made lighter non A2 alternatives.
Compare the latest BMW GS weight/bulk compared to the original R80 GS,it's just massive in comparison.Honda's Africa twin hasn't exactly reduced in size over the years..
It's the same with roadbikes, they're making so much horsepower that they're loaded with electronics so that riders can keep the things upright,no wonder people have such a positive view about the GSXR K5 :D

I had K5 and they're not as good as any of the later models. On my 2018 jobby I've got all the electronics turned off. Even on track.

That penultimate one is quite interesting, as the UK stopped getting them sometime in the 80's?
Weird that the 125 has a 13litre tank compared to a 7 for the 185

My 1996 Aprilia RS250 weighed 150kg wet, but produced 72 bhp.
Having had a Suzuki GT550 that would regularly dip below 20mpg, the RS at 26 (ish) mpg wasn't too bad.
The RS's are such great bikes
