They're quite interesting bits of engineering. I worked on a site with 4 of them. Some of them sit in a sort of moat which provides the seal (they're low pressure). There's a layer of oil/glycol anti-rust type stuff on top of the water that coats the sections as they lift - which is why they could look quite grubby.

For inspection purposes you could send someone in via the moat in diving gear and the big ones had a little coracle inside to paddle around. The centre was an earth mound with a frame on to support the 'roof' when empty.

Some were spiral lift so the sections rotated as they lifted.

Pretty much all surplus to requirements now - they just isolate sections of the gas main low pressure network and pressurise them for short term/overnight local storage (line-packing).

(Not a lot of people know that  ).

It was an impersonation of Michael Caine. It'd work better as an audio clip.

I may have told this one.......

I matched with this girl on Tinder, she tells me she's kinky and she wants me to go round to her house later :banana-dance:

Oddly, she wants me to bring food! She kept saying it

" I wanna fish stew, I wanna fish stew "

at least....... I think that's what she was saying ?

If you don't get it, try saying it fast repeatedly......

I've been watching the women's golf on telly. It's good as it's very true to real life.

They're shit at driving but good with an iron.

Just bumped into the bloke who sold me my antique globe.

It's a small world.
