the ferry from gourock to Dunoon rather than through Glasgow.
I know this is an old post, but my Mrs and myself got the ferry over to Dunoon whilst on a mission to visit some friends who were staying in a place called Drimsymie Caravan Park (at least I think that was the place, having just checked out Google maps). We were on my FJR1300 and had travelled from the Newcastle -ish area on one tank of petrol. We came off the ferry and turned right with my eyes on stalks looking for a petrol station. Me, not having one of those new fangled things called a mobile telephone device could not "Google" it. After a mile or two I pulled over to ask a dog walker for petrol station directions. "I don't live here, I am on holiday". And off they walked. I spotted a Police car heading towards me, so on the premise, if you are lost, ask a Police man, I waved at him to get his attention.

And he politely waved back to us a continued on his journey.

So, on fumes, we continued on.
I now know that if I had turned left off the ferry I would have found a petrol station.
Google maps shows the trip to be about 225 miles which we did, both ways on 2 tanks of petrol. Which considering motorway speeds, country roads etc is pretty good for an old bus of a bike.
But I love Scotland.

And breaking your journey with a ride on a ferry makes it seem more like a holiday.
