I think it used to be a law, because RAC Rally (car) competitors had to get special dispensation to use the roads to get between stages without removing their numbers, but last time I looked (a couple of years back now, I think I checked when Honda started selling repsol rep fireblades with 63 on them) I couldn't find anything saying race numbers were illegal.

I remember in Canada that if your car has stripes or numbers, you get an insurance loading.

Pedantic I know, but aren't race numbers on a specific coloured background depending on the class. That's not, so isn't it just a number?

Pedantic I know, but aren't race numbers on a specific coloured background depending on the class. That's not, so isn't it just a number?

Not sure that's a valid argument, especially since things like MotoGP dont seem to have that rule anymore.

In the UK colours are decided/regulated by the ACU. I doubt the Five-O understand or care.

I've had a look round too, including a poke about the Road Traffic Offenders Act, which is The Law we're actually talking about breaking.

Can't find anything to say numbers are specifically illegal, but racing on the road obviously is. General consensus is that the 5-0 might think you're racing if you're all numbered up.

If they think one of their own bikes is racing....well....
