Yeah, I know. It was tongue in cheek, but a good idea in theory.

They're the ones who know the rules very well and struggle to stay just inside them.

As @Yorick pointed out some time ago, there's a value to having a single thread where we can post the sad / stupid / scary / confusing, etc. news stories.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 9:16 ambut but but, monkey pox, super gonorrhea and a yacht sinking have passed us by

Heres my perspective. I only went there regularly as a mod but I have looked since and subsequently opted myself out. There are some genuinely interesting discussions I'd like to read but they get overshadowed by entrenched opinions, no debate just name calling. That's on both sides.
I think some want an unmoderated bear pit, with the advent
of cancel culture, that's just a threat to Weeksy's hosting, possibly worse

You can't have too many 'dog that says sausages' or 'London bus found on moon' or, as today 'snake in bog bit my plums' stories eh?Horse wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 11:43 amAs @Yorick pointed out some time ago, there's a value to having a single thread where we can post the sad / stupid / scary / confusing, etc. news stories.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 9:16 ambut but but, monkey pox, super gonorrhea and a yacht sinking have passed us by

Yup, bring it back, some good stuff gets posted in there as well as bad stuff. That said, I think the mods should brandish the ban hammer for any truculent criticism of my posts!

Re: Current Affairs/Politics/etc.... Comeback or keep it binned ?
This is my issue. I don't read the news or listen to it anywhere. So the "Today's News" type thread was great for me cos I could go look up stuff I thought I'd be interested in - like the big yacht thingy that sank, I didn't know about that and it was days ago!! Ok, not really 'massively interesting' to me but as I grew up sailing, the whys and wherefors are interesting.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 9:16 ambut but but, monkey pox, super gonorrhea and a yacht sinking have passed us by
Yup!
This is the bit I REALLY don't get - you can read, dislike and walk away (scroll away?). I've always struggled to understand how a group of lairy bikers have such feeble sensibilities!!
I am glad the news today (or whatever) thread will be back again

Lairy bikers? More like IT nerds and accountants
I say bring it back, I wouldn't even bother moderating it. The politics forum is like a short video I saw of 2 dogs barking at each other through an open glass door. When one dog walked through the open door to the water bowl it all stopped and resumed when he went back to the other side of the glass.
