Surely if you're prepared to have a car built, you'd have a bike built too ? So the fact the XSR hasn't got Ohlins is literally a few hours for a bike place to sort and a couple of quid.
It's too new for that, in twenty years I might buy one and do that, but I wouldn't buy a new 2024 Porsche and put Ohlins on it, because Porsche make different products and I can choose to buy a high end version, and it should be the same for a bike.
I'd put Ohlins on my 1989 Porsche and the 1992 964 I'm considering already has Ohlins, but like I said, not on a new one, I think it's crap that the factory don't offer a better version.
Simple case of supply and demand. But i don't see the difference between an Ohlins tech fitting them or the factory fitting them personally. It's still someone fitting them and still brand new. People happily fit many things to a new bike, many people fit Ohlins/aftermarket shocks... so i don't really get the issue.
I think it's more as you allude to, you simply don't want a bike. If they offered it for £20k with Ohlins, you'd say it's too expensive...
Funnily enough my mate has just bunged a load of money into a company that retrofits EV to classic sports cars, personally I think he's just wasted a big lump of cash because very few people will want one until the government forces it - which by the way is being discussed by the UK government to force all historic registered motorcycles to be converted to electric - ...
If they do that to cars as well, the London to Brighton run is going to be a quiet affair.
That said and bear in mind I'm not a money guy so this is worth what you've paid for it, but i'd be nervous of buying something for an investment that's already carrying a jacked up premium. Surely that'll just lengthen the time to realise the growth and shorten the amount gained?

I don't think I would, remember I flew an MV Agusta in that was about £20k plus flight costs.
It would have to be special enough but for the right bike I wouldn't hesitate.

I think it would eventually reach and surpass the premium, because it's rare to see anything like that drop in price too much, but I never spend or invest a penny that I'm not willing to lose. The money I'm not willing to lose is sitting in fixed interest bonds, it doesn't get any safer, the rest I'll spend on stuff or invest and hopefully it comes back, but if it doesn't then meh....and the reason I'm less bothered about dropping that money on a car than on the stock market is because even if everything crashes then I'm left with an awesome car, whereas if my stocks crash I'm left with nothing but my pecker in my hand.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition.

Chatting with a friend , who flew into the local airport to pick a mororcycle seat from me ( ), he was talking about his car collection and showed me the picture of his 1965 (?) Shelby Mustang. It looked lovely!

I LOVE Corvettes. When I lived on Guernsey, there were three Corvettes that were driven fairly regularly - black, silver and a two-tone. I could tell which one was coming by the engine noise

I had a go in one and I've made an offer, I never thought I'd be seen in a Boxster but it was the best car I've driven in a long time. I'm not going to pay over the odds, so I've offered what I think it's worth and we'll see if he takes it.
It knocked the socks off the GT3s I've driven and was all day long fun, mid-engined so you can take huge liberties that a 911 wouldn't like with all that weight over the back.

I think that’s the same everywhere but there are still a few places where you can have fun.
The fella turned down my offer and I’m not offering more, some people are still stuck in Covid mentality and haven’t realised yet that the sports car market has crashed, I’ll go back in six months with an even lower offer.
The FB groups are saying it’s a bloodbath, nothing is selling unless it’s very cheap.
Parts are still going up though, so the price of cars is going down and the price of maintenance is going up.
A classic/sports car crash is pretty inevitable.
