Re: XSR900GP
I could sell you a very nice GSXR1100 with the much sought after pink GSXR decals for £6k.
Mint condition, only 13k miles, recent fork rebuild.
More faster than an ex-up.

Re: XSR900GP
For some reason the GSXR1100 wasn't considered by any of us lot, we all had 250/350 two strokes, then GSXR750s or perhaps an Exup if you wanted the extra power (after taking a Stanley Knife to the carb rubbers). Then when the new 600s came out in 1991 a lot of people switched to those, I think 1991 was the last year any of us had 750's, it was 600s until the Blade came out.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 12:58 pm I could sell you a very nice GSXR1100 with the much sought after pink GSXR decals for £6k.

The lads who had GSXR1100s, FJ1200s, Katanas, etc, were all a lot older than us.

But without decent brakes, ABS, Traction, QS, Blipper and warrantyPotter wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 12:55 pmYou're probably right there, I've seen really tidy and well looked after Exups going for just a few grand (there are some going for £1500 but I'm talking about really tidy low mileage examples that have been pampered) and then throw another few grand on suspension and if you're feeling really special then a blueprinted engine, and you'd have something really nice.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 12:32 pm There's an early EXUP in the bike shed at work today, it looks massively better than this thing, buy an EXUP and throw money at it.
Basically, throw £15k at building a very well sorted Exup and you'd have a much nicer, faster and better handling bike than an XSR900GP with pipe and fairing.

ABS and warranty are good though

Re: XSR900GP
QS and Blipper definitely add to the fun factor, which bike's are all about. This GP is probably the answer to what many have been asking for. The 900 triple in a more sporty bike.
I still see plenty of sports bike's about, so they still sell. Some don't want the MT10 power and the 900 is just about right. I reckon anyway.

Re: XSR900GP
The brakes on an Exup are good if properly maintained.
All the rest of that stuff isn't normal on the bikes I ride anyway, I blip myself, I don't like ABS because I've never found one that doesn't interfere too much on track and traction is boring.
To be fair though I haven't ridden a very modern bike with all this stuff on, so it's probably a lot better than I've experienced. I've had test rides but you can't get a proper feel for a bike on a one hour test ride, so apart from the Royal Enfield 650 I haven't owned a bike newer than my MV Dragster, and much better people than me reckon the proper sports bikes electronics are very good now.

Re: XSR900GP
I read a review on the new Ducati SM single, apparently you can set the wheelie control so you can just whack the throttle open in first gear and run up through the gears with it sitting at the perfect angle.
It's obviously clever stuff these days.

Re: XSR900GP
The only aid I want is ABS. It will save me if things go wrong on wet/dirty roads. Not had it kick in yet.
TC is turned off in mine. I want to ride it and feel my skills.
Where's the skill on track just opening the throttle?
I want to use my skill to unleash the 200 gee gees. I might lose a second or 2 a lap, but using my skills makes me smile.
If I couldn't turn it off, I'd sell it.

Re: XSR900GP
QS and blipper is a waste of time, if I had the choice between these and heated grips, I'd take heated grips.
Traction Control is good, but it needs to be adjustable.
ABS is good, but mines only ever came on once at walking pace on a slippery wet brick road surface.
The biggest problem with old 4 strokes is the carbs, they get gummed up if you don't use the bike a lot.

Re: XSR900GP
Blipper is a nuisance IME, I blip myself out of decades of habit, so me blipping at the same time as the bike trying to blip itself was weird.

Hmmm maybe if you threw 15k at it.Potter wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 12:55 pmYou're probably right there, I've seen really tidy and well looked after Exups going for just a few grand (there are some going for £1500 but I'm talking about really tidy low mileage examples that have been pampered) and then throw another few grand on suspension and if you're feeling really special then a blueprinted engine, and you'd have something really nice.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 12:32 pm There's an early EXUP in the bike shed at work today, it looks massively better than this thing, buy an EXUP and throw money at it.

All I'm gonna add is that my GSXS 1000 is essentially a modern Bandit 1200. But, and it's a sizable but, its a chunk better than my 96 model Fireblade which was the Billy big bollocks bike of its day. It's heavier, but it's got a lot more power, more torque, has better suspension, better brakes and handles better. I reckon you'd have to spend a LOT of money to get an EXUP to anywhere near what's now a modern Bandit. And that's before you add 20 years of age and the fact GSXS has traction and ABS. The GSXS has pretty much a previous gen GSXR 1000 frame and swingarm which I think is why it handles so well, I found it handled loads better than the Gen 2 MT09 which felt...odd. And best of all it was (admittedly a bargain deal) £8k pre registered. It's not as cool as the XSR900GP (although I don't like it, but thats imo) but other than that the the XSR isn't objectively better for nearly twice the price. I think that's part of the problem with the price. The MT09 is a budget modern Bandit too, but somehow in this guise its 15k. When it came out the MT09 was cheap but like all bikes it's crept up. Tbf the right price of the GSXS is 11,500 I think but there are deals everywhere.
If you want an EXUP, just buy a nice one for what it is. Trying to turn one into an XSR900 beater is a fools errand and you'll lose a shed load of cash on it to boot.

Re: XSR900GP
No I wouldn't do that, I'm done with building old bikes, I've got two and that's plenty to scratch that itch.
It was more just the concept.
As I said, I love the look and idea of the 900GP, but it's just that I got my hopes up and imagined it to be something it might not be - although I'm a bit more interested after reading MCN yesterday when it says it's got uprated suspension and the electronics are very good.
I'll probably head over to Raceways at some point over the next few weeks and see if they have a demo, but I'm not rushing out to buy any bikes at the moment, my bike mojo is flat. I might be heading down to London next week to check out another 930 Turbo.

I’ll be happy with a bog standard 930 Turbo, maybe slightly breathed on with a bit of very light tuning, but standard means reliable.
This looks like a decent one and they have a good reputation - https://jzmporsche.com/cars/porsche-930-p0593/

Re: XSR900GP
Looks nice, not sure if I want one with 400 bhp, it'll be a proper handful, they don't weigh much, the road legal 934 that I knew of in the 80s had that sort of power and was supposed to do 190 mph (it was second in class at Le Mans before it became a road car)
I'd rather have this https://jzmporsche.com/cars/porsche-32-p0633/

Re: XSR900GP
I don't think it would be a very good fucking car, my other 911 was pretty cramped in the back, you could manage it if you were young and flexible but you'd probably be better in something with a bit more room.
Back onto the topic of the 900GP, I've booked my test ride for when the demo bike comes in, but they're saying it's going to be early June.

Re: XSR900GP
I was struggling with going from a 2020s triple back to an an old nail from the 80s. How on earth can anyone say the XSR is shite and then go looking at EXUP ffs! You can only dream of getting a EXUP into anything that goes stops and handles half as well as a XSR! Apples and oranges, more like apples and jellyfish!
