My BiL had an early 996 he bought new in '99. He did almost 100k miles in it without a single fault. Another family member has one of the same year, its a daily driver but he lives in the middle of bristol so not huge mileage but again, no issues. A sample of two is ok yeah?
Oh, and prices are going north on 996's and 997's. I think its because they are a reasonable size, the 991s onwards seem to be massive?
Friends one has been fine for last 5 or 6 years, just this vario harness that's burnt up for some reason.
He has offered it to me as it stands but not sure i can be bothered with the work it needs.
It a nice car - really nice dark blue with a green tint however is a Tiptronic auto and not a manual.

If I had the choice for a daily, probably a 997 2WD Manual would be the one.

Do like a V8 and did own a V8 Porsche (928 S2) but anything 911 needs a flat 6
Few mentions of the Cybertruck on this thread, this popped up on my Youtube feed today showing some of its issue's. Some obvious from the start and some not so much.
Rust being one I'd considered as Stainless isn't so stainless when you get any ferromagnetic dust on it (try a bit of steel filings on a stainless sink and see what happens) plus all the proper nasty sharp edges.
Like many pickups its not got much load space compared to the amount of road it takes up but it proper takes the piss with that one.

The manual makes all the difference in a 911 IMHO, PDK and manual feel like two very different cars.
I'd have 4wd for a daily in the UK though.
I've had auto in fast cars before and they're fine, but it's not the same thing.
Both my previous Cayman and current 997 are manual and fantastic.
4WD isn't really necessary IMHO. It's one more thing to remove a small amount of driving feel and the traction is outrageous with all the weight over the wheels anyway. The Cayman could be dicey if you tried to drive too hard on cold tyres in winter, but not so the 911.
The most special version of the 911....the 911 RSR....is mid engined. Or at least, it is in some years of racing. So it seems Porsche agree with your mate. Sometimes.

Tbh, I don't think that even Porsche would admit that the rear engine is the best design decision. I mean, it's not like they keep doing it even, the last time they launched a model with that configuration was 61 years ago! They only keep it because it's their heritage.
It has to be said, though, that right or wrong, it does make for a unique driving experience. I thought all that stuff about the handling was just journalist talk, but they're really nothing else to drive.
A nice Skoda Superb estate. Would swallow everything we need for 5-6 weeks away in France (including cat and shitbox) and would eat up the Autoroute miles while sipping parsimoniously on diesel.

Mate, I currently drive a 2002 VW T4 van and a 2005 Citroen Berlingo. The idea of recreating my living room in a car/van interior is completely alien to me. The CD player/radio on both vehicles are borked and I really don't GAF.
4 wheelers are expendable tools. They do a job or they don't. If they don't they get shit-canned and replaced. The only exception to this rule (and for the life of me I don't know why) is the Lancia Beta.
