The metallised coating? It definitely looks like condensation on it. Might be worth gluing a strip of wood on it but yeah go with the fan you spotted I think

Yes. My theory is that 'cold' stuff like metal and glass is where condensation tends to form and it looks like that's what's happened with the coating.
